 Subject: Damn Volkswagen

Last night I pulled up to stop light next to a VW Passat I think. Light turned green and we both nailed it. He ate my lunch. I'm in a 2003 Quad Cab 4.7 Auto with LSD 3.55. I figured he would take me on the top, but he walked right by me from the very start. Should I complain or are these new VWs that fast.

If it was a turbo, then that is expected. They are pretty quick. If it wasn't then they had some good mods! At any rate, make a mental note of that experience the next time one pulls next to you! That's what I do every time I get waxed!! Of course I usually pick on those bigger than me, so I am not surprised when I get killed, but it feels good when I don't :)

My wife just bought a GlS 1.8t turbo Jetta. Its real quick. Top end around 130. Its a tad faster than my 4.7 AWD RC with a few mods. It won't pull 7000 lbs. though.

Don't know about the Turbo,
but a friend had a v6 Passat, we never raced, but I rode in it, and YES, they are fast. Good power thru out the range, etc. It's a lot lighter than you, etc.
An auto with a 3.92, has a first about like a 4.7, manual with 3.55's, about I said, I didn't look up the exact ratios. So, an auto with 3.55's, is longer still.

The turbo kicks in at 2000 like a load of nitrous compared to the average four banger. The little Jetta can really handle too. A real fun car to play with and a suspension that can straiten out the curves. More like my old 911 Porsche than a VW. They have a bunch of mods available for them too.

and with the correct chipselection (giac) they can make 220wheel easy. turbo and the timing of those 5valves per cilinder ijectors etc are all well controlled by the computer.

to weigh in a BUNCH less than a Dakota!
Well I bet a go-cart with a two cycle one banger
racing engine will beat the crap out of any
Dakota or about anything else for that matter.

Itīs sad, but itīs true. Those little cars are fast stock and they have some Combo packages.
The Audi A3 has the same 1.8L turbocharged engine than VW jetta has.
I was very upset myself when my R/T used to get spanked for those little shi*s with 4 cil and 1.776 Liter, thatīs right itsīnot even a 1.8L..
Not sure but I think that Audi didnīt show up with the A3 and S3 version(S3- AWD, 6spd, 225Hp in a light turbo car)in US.
The A3 turbocharged comes in 150 and 180 HP versions. The only problem for us trying to race them is that just with few mods(chip, intake, exaust)they get about 60 HP at the wheels and can easily beat a R/T and keep up with a Subaru Impreza WRX. Iīm talking about the A3 with the manual transmission. The autos can be spanked including A3 and JeTTas.
My dad has an Audi A3 with just a chip and K&N air filter and I needed a lot of mods on my 98 C/C R/T to beat that car.
I tell all of you with 4.7īs, 5.2īs and R/Tīs that are going to race those little cars in a stop light:
Try to get the best start as possible on the green light with no or little tire spin and take the lead on first and second gear the best you can, because that car is fast on 2nd gear and specialy from 3rd on.
The jetta should be a little bit less fast than the audi because of the weight thought.
Donīt worry if you have a V8 with Nitrous or supercharger including all those mods that we already know M1,Tbīs exaust, H.Os.........

Most of the people posting here don't have enough information to really give you a good reason why the vehicle in question spanked you so bad. First off he said it was a passat not a jetta, the passat weighs in at about 3150lb and the jetta at 2884lb so there is a weight difference.
The Passat was offered in 6 trim levels for 2004: GLS - 1.8t 170hp /GLS - V6 190hp /GLS - TDI 134hp /GLX - 2.8L 190hp /W8 - 4.0L 270hp.
In my opinion it was probably a W8 no doubt that thing has some power I can't seen anything else beating your dak stock. I don't think anyone would be dumb enough to mod a 1.8L T Passat when the jetta is lighter.

Maybe some are faster but I can only think of 1 that will spank it as bad as he says it did. I still don't think they are going to be that much faster unless it's a W8.

The Passat is not turbo-charged, it more then likely has the VR6 powerplant in it. A very revvy and torquey engine.

Jag you have proven you don't know what you are talking about, the Passat could be a turbo charged model but it probably isn't the Passat is offered in two turbo models 1.8t and the TDI. I doubt it was the VR6 since they no longer make a VR6 trim Passat but it is more likely a W8.

The old man bought a new Volkswagen SUV and claims it has a V10 in it. I haven't seen it yet but I told him I think he's out of his mind. Told me he paid quite the chunk of change for it though.

I had a standerd 91 volkswagen fox and im sad to say it would take my 01 4.7 dak of the line anyday. What do you expect from cars that weigh as much as a trucks bumper :)

I can give you plenty info cause I own a 1.8T
Mine is an audi TT The 180hp FWD vs I have instaled a Chip K&N and Downpipe. Stock I could spank a 4.7 and With my mods I can rape them My car weights in at 2915 Runs low 14s And tops out around 150mph NOW this is Mine With my mods dont know about any one else. Does any one have a Dyno of there Dakota. Oh yeah my Flywheel HP is 225 and my tq is 260.
OH the Jetta is a 3000lb car not 2800
And You said Why would any one be dumb enough to mod a Passat. OK look at these lugs of steal you mod ( and I used to mod)
