Message: OK Im about to just blow up my truck i cant figure this out
I have a 96 Dakota with the 318 Maginum engine and it has gone from have a bunch of power (Breaking the wheels loose at will and sometimes on accident) to have no power and I'm down to about 10-12 mpg total
I have realitvy newy plugs and wires , new air filter, I have had it into two shops and they say it's fine cause they cant get a code on it
My buddy tested the vaccume and I had 20 inches of vaccume. we tested the coil and it was within the resistance window of the chiltons book I just dont know what to check next
Could it be a bad computer part and thats why theres no code
Oh yeah Catalatic converter was checked and not pluged
Please any suggestions would be awsome

Message: If cat is original = Change it anyway
Also possible EGR getting lazy ' stuck '..
Have you put any injector clean lately ?
Could be worth a try.!

Message: Yes, check the cat and injectors. But the most overlooked thing is the O2 sensor. My money's on the O2 sensor. BTW, it doesn't have to kick out a code to be bad.

Message: Ditto. My dad just had a bad O2 sensor (failure caused by stuck EGR), and it did not trip a code. Gas mileage went from 27 ot 13 mpg, and poor power.

Message: do you get spark knock and/or oil consumption?? it may be your intake plenum pan gasket (even without spark knock)
Remove PCV valve and breather element from the valve covers.
Place your thumb over the hole in the valve cover where the PCV valve was. With the motor idling (at operating temperature), you should feel either a positive pressure or a vacuum. Keep your thumb there for about 15seconds; if you feel pressure, it's OK... if you feel a vacuum, then your plenum gasket should be replaced.....
also, read this tsb (its in adobe acrobat format) and see what you think... http://www.speedtweaks.ca/Instructions/BellyPan_TSB.pdf
hope this helps.

Message: Definitely check the intake. Easiest way is to remove the aircleaner and open the TB valves. If you have oil and/or heavy carbon residue inside you have a blown gasket. On average they seem to blow every 30k miles, although I have seen some blow earlier than that.
O2 sensor may be having problems. If you have an OBDII scanner you can check the voltage on it that way to make sure it is registering properly. I don't think you have EGR though, that was an OBDI part.

Message: What kind of air filter did you put on?
I have a 95 Dakota and I put on the K&N FIPK, which is just a huge filter that is open all around. I It started running way lean, burned up the converter, plugs and O2 sensor were scorched. My gas milage went from 15-16 mpg, to 11-12. I put the stock housing back on and she runs a lot better and i'm back to 15-16 mpg. Now I need high flow injectors to provide enough fuel.
Man these things get expensive!!
