Message: Throttle Body or Throttle body spacer? Spacers are junk paper weights. Throttle bodys are only really useful if you get your intake manifold ported and have aftermarket cams.
As for headers, I tried to put headers on my 4.7 2002 and the steel bolts in the aluminum block were so rusted that 3 speed shops wouldnt touch em. The problem is that those steel bolts rust and grip that aluminum like claws and will snap off so easily that its almost not worth the risk. Prior to purchasing your headers, take your truck to a shop and have the guy who will be doing your headers inspect your truck to make sure you aren't wasting your time. Headers really don't improve too much but they do bring back the low end torque that your cat system robbed from you. Your best bet is to get a bolt on installation header that requires no modifications. Making sure that you can still use your Y Pipe and the Pre-Cats that are on it. Otherwise you will be spending double what the headers cost in materials just to get them mounted up. Gibson makes a perfect bolt on Header for the 4.7 and if you order them through JC-Whitney you can take 15% off the regular price. I got mine in 3 days after ordering. I bought the stainless steel headers for $400 rather than $450. I never did get them installed because the cost for fixing a snapped bolt was about $1000 per side if a snap occured. And a potential $2450 for headers didnt make much sense, for that kind of cash I would buy a supercharger or something.

Message: Just curious.. if you snap a bolt, is it possible to drill and tap the hole to fix the problem? Or isn't there enough room in the block to mess around like that?

Message: Holy crap. The bolts rusted in 2 years? Where do you live?
If this IS a problem I'm glad I know to LOOK before I remove mine. Otherwise I'd have used my air ratchet without checking.
In AZ rust isn;t much of a problem. But I've taken my 2003 Dak thru lots of water a few times :-)

Message: I live in Michigan so rust is a huge issue here. The roads are covered in salt throughout the winter, pretty much from Nov straight through to April. Spring showers simply wash it down the sewers. The roads usually have salt clouds when the snow isn't falling, from all the powdered salt on the pavement. I'm not surprised that they are so rusted. As for drilling out the snapped bolt, that is definately something you could do, but you would have to re-tap the hole and that should cause metal shavings to get into your heads. This means you would have to tear them down to clean them out. This might also cause some scoring in the aluminum block making replacement bolts fit roughly. The simply solution to all of this is to simply have all your major engine mods done within 3 months of purchasing a brand new truck. This is not a Dakota specific problem, most older trucks share the same problems. As for selling you Dakota to get something faster, you can get that dak pretty damn fast without headers. As a matter of fact, I have read a few times that our factory manifolds are very effecient and can do the job with mild to medium modifications to our engines. A port polish, new cams, perhaps a blower, and you'll be blowing mustangs off to the curb. Can't do that with a S-10 or Ranger.
