Subject: TPS Change voltage with TB Swap?
IP: Logged

Message:
All-
I am going to test my TPS sensor and see how the voltage is. If it is low I want to adjust it by doing the mod. My only question is:

At the moment I have my stock TB. I plan to buy an upgraded Throttle Body (F&B 48MM) within 5 months. Will this affect the voltage in any way if I trade Throttle Body's?
Thanks
Sledge

The only way the voltage is changed is by movement of the TB blades. It will be slightly different just from on TB to the next TB, but nothing drastic. If you need to, you can change the 'at idle' voltage by the following.

Applies to the 5.2/5.9 and I believe the 3.9
I do not know about the 4.7. These steps are after the TB is installed on your engine.

-Remove the 2 metal inserts that the bolts go though to scrure the TPS to the TB. One on each side. You can use a drill bit and heat up the instert to cause it to come out.

-Initially install the TPS snug (snug enough so you can barely move the TPS) Remember that you will need a flat washer between the screw and TPS now, b/c of the hole size.

-Plug in the TPS wire harness

-Back probe the wire harness with a mulit-meter

-Turn the ignition on (battery must be connected)

-Most people say to set it anywhere from .65v to .80 volts. Factory is from .45v? to .65?, I believe.

-To set it, rotate the TPS until you get the desired voltage.

-After you find the setting you like, tighten down the TPS.

-Project completed. (Don't forget to reattach anything you may have removed to get to this point.

By setting the volts closer to 1.0v, the throttle response is quicker, i.e. less hesitation upon initial throttle movement.

I did have mine set at .75-.78v, but have returned it back to .61-.63v. A little too quick throttle response in my opinion.

Isn't there three wires at the TPS plug? If so, which ones do we check?
