Subject: Leaking Header gasket IP: Logged
Message: Hi sorry to cross post. Posted on V6 forum, so far no response. I give this board a try. Thanks in advance.
I have the JBA headers for the 3.9 V6. The problem I am having is that the gaskets always leak. Anybody know of a better way to seal the headers. I am using the Carquest gaskets without any type of sealant. Do you know of other gaskets for the v6? What about a method to use (2) gaskets instead of one (super glue together)? Any suggestions?

Message: Header leaks are pretty common. The first thing to look for is a warped flange. If it always leaks at the same place, that's the usual problem. To find it, you'll have to pull the header and put a straight edge across the sealing surface. A good machine shop can dress it to flat again.
It it's leaking in different places, it's a gasket problem. I like copper gaskets and Stage 8 bolts.
I'm not real familier with the 3.9, so could be blowing smoke here. But you might be able to cut down a V8 gasket to fit correctly.

Message: I've got a 3.9 and have had JBA headers for 5 years and no leaks.
Make sure you tighten them down good on initial install. And
recheck them once a week. Sometimes they do need a second
or third tightening. Try lock washers maybe if that don't work. I
guess two gaskets might work if your headers aren't as smooth
as the head is at the mating area.

Message: last resort try running two gaskets instead of one, they might make up the difference...
