Message: just got my truck last week.
4x4/Sport/4.7/45RFE/3.92LSD/T&H/Towing
I've got about 400 miles on it so far. Averaging
(according to o/h computer) 12.3 mpg. That's
at about 50/50 city/hwy. I know it will only go up
as the engine "loosens" up. May take up to
5,000 or even 10,000 to fully break-in and get
consistent mileage, but it'll come eventually.
I've noticed that when the converter locks up in
O/D, mileage will jump up 2-3 mpg instantly
(from say 16-18/19). I wish the tranny would
maintain lock-up more steadily, as it seems to
fall out of lock-up with the slightest throttle
change. Also, I don't think lock-up engages in
any of the lower gears (correct me if I'm
wrong). Are there any aftermarket tranny ECM
out there that allow more control over lock-up,
in any gear, etc.???
Cheers,
Luc

Message: I'm getting 17mpg on 87 octane. I do about 75% highway and 25% city driving. I shift early usually to try to save gas, but I'm getting a heavier and heavier foot lately. From what I've noticed about the 4.7 is that it improves until about 9,000 miles. I got 12.5 mpg on my first tank of gas in this car! 17 sounds ok, right?

Message: Mike, I know but it is just so much more fun. Plus, here in Texas on any highway, you are either crawling in traffic or getting run over by semi's running 80mph. I once paced an 18 wheeler and he was running 105mph at night heading North from Houston. I tucked in behind and got dragged all the way to Dallas.
Does anyone know the drag coefficients on the 2000 daks? I am looking at getting a tonneau cover but haven't been doing much highway driving lately.

Message: Hey aggie,
I put a cover on mine 2 weeks ago and the mileage jumped 2mpg's. You can actually feel the difference at speed. About those Texas truckers, that guy apparently was stuck in a low gear, try IH 35 south out of San Antone going to Laredo, my Dak won't stay with 'em.

Message: hey larry, I hope that your Dak doesn't get stolen and end up on one of those trucks. Many of my friends in houston and have had cars stolen and the cops said they are immediately loaded on a truck and shipped to mexico on trucks that run very fast and will not stop for anyone. Watch your mirror!
Not a nascar team but an empty trailer as it was riding very high.

All options, less than 1K .
based on the mileage since new
80% hwy
20% city
14.6-15.5 (gallons/actual mileage)no computer used 87% octain Doesn't seem to vary much
Note: I purchased this truck solely based on the deal I got on it (**Was** a die hard FORD Truck fan), and I must say I really got more than I expected.
V8 Dakota's are :
1) The muscle car I used to have
2) The luxury car I wanted
3) The truck I needed..
Added plus, GT Mustangs get a rude awakening when then they go up against this 4X4 . I love it.
I'm looking in to adding Air In-Take, Exhaust, Custom matched topper, Computer chip upgrade.
Enjoy
