Message: Jason,
They're ALL plastic. That's good though. It is said that the HO intake has changed some, from 02-on. I have an O2 on my 01 Dak. If you want gains you think you'll feel, the cams are much better bang for the buck. Dyno does show some increase in with the HO intake, but it moves the power band over to higher RPM's. The cams come on thruout for an objective, dynoed gain.
Do you have an aftermarket, or at least a Throttle Body from an 01 or newer? The 01's have a 68mm, and mine in ported from that, that will help some too.
I'd put the Jet Chip on my desk, never bothered with one though, and I have a manual tranny.

Message: Get a magnaflow istead of the flowmaster. And like Todd said...skip the Jet ship. If you want to put money into a coputer upgrade get the Kenne Bell Optimizer flash. Check the website for details. Upgrade to at least a 68mm Fastman TB. Get a carsound free flow cat as well.

Message: i have a quick question for ya...
if I put the HO manifold on my 00 (without the cams) will it help my top end and not kill my low end? I would like it to pull harder from 4500+..
my mods so far are, tps adjusted to .76, dynomax super turbo muffler, ported 65mm TB (not really a mod, but.. autolite 5224 plugs 8)
Thanks;

Message: It just seems that from everyone that I've heard from who has flowmaters has them for sound not power. While I do agree that they make good sound, i'd rather have power than sound. Magnaflows make fgood sound too.

Message: Don't waste your money!! The HO intake has the same part number as the one on my 02 dakota-STOCK!!! They are the SAME! HO engines differ not only with the cams but the crank, pistons, PCM and heads are different! A large amount of the posts on this site are misleading! So do your research and don't spend money on stuff you already have. Your intake flows just fine. Unless you get some 9.7:1 pistons, a forged crank, H.O. heads, cams and the needed PCM software you will not be anywhere near the 270hp that the H.O. puts out! If anyone tells you different, just get a service manual for a 4.7HO and show them. If you look at the cam profiles they are only slightly different from the ones in your truck. Also you will run into your rev limiter right when the cams start actually working.

Jason'sdakota-flowmaster's have been proven on the dyno to add no hp, while other mufflers such as spintech, magnaflow, and dynomax have been shown to improve hp. The 02 h.o. intake which is significantly different from the 02 standard intake (I know I have seen both first hand) has very short runners and is designed for upper rpm horsepower, the newer intakes have mid-length runners, designed for more of a balance between the standard long runners and the h.o. short runners, a very good compromise in my opinion.
DaffyDak-I wouldn't recommend changing your manifold w/o the cams, certainly not with the 02 manifold, you could use and 04 and probably would notice a slight increase in upper rpm power with not much of a lowend loss, but it would likely be so little w/o the cams as not to be worth the time and expense, but heck, go for it and if it doesnt help then you'll just hacve to get the cams to finsish it off :)

Message: Hey nope - what do you think a HO service manual is going to tell anyone ? It doesn't itemize how much HP you get from each part. We're aware there are other parts on an HO motor; we're also aware that most of the torque gain of the HO package is available by just swapping the cams. Isn't it the '03 -'04 manifold that is the same on both motors ?

Message: Thanks pittdawg, for some reason I was thinking that the 99/00 intakes were restrictive... I already ported my TB, and was looking for some more top end! (Without sacrificing low end) I think my next mod, will be a spintech sportsman street muffler (replacing my dynomax super turbo with stock piping) hopefully it will be louder then the turbo muffler, but not cop attracting loud :-)
Thanks
