Message: They come with a standard I-4 engine, supposed to put out 176hp I believe. And they have the optional I-5 that cranks out 220hp. I was looking at their previews last summer before I got my dak. The back seat still is the captain's chairs, they just face forward. I dun really like them too much. Looks like a squashed 1500.

Message: A few weeks ago A white Colorado, rolled up along side of me at a stop light. 2 lanes going onto Hwy 1 north bound...merges into one lane at 1/4 mile.
The light turns green and the Colorado, and I take off....I did not know he wanted to race when we left the light. At about 25 MPH I could hear the peddel to the metail hiss out of his exhaust. This guy was racing me! At this point the front bumper of my Dakota's (4BY4By4 4.7 auto with the usual mods) was at the Colorado's rear bumper. I grabed the auto shifter and pulled it into low and kicked the Dak. in the ass. I shifted into second @ 5500 RPM the Dakota lanched ahead to where the Colorado's front bumper was at my rear bumper. I kept the hammer down just past the 1/4 mile mark I was doing around 84 to 88 MPH. the Colorado was about 80 to 100 feet behind me when I got out of the Dak.
I slowed down and leveled out at about 70MPH. the Colorado came along side again This time I thought he wanted more so of corse I nailed it again. The Dak. droped into passing gear and jumped out ahead by about 40 feet This time I knew he had eunhf. The Colorado, came along side one more time. This time he gave me a thumbs up.

Message: Solar, I dont know if it was a 4 or 5 whatever I smoked him pretty bad. I have run off with a few S-10 exterme's B_4 and smoked them too. That was B-4 I had any mods.
Please dont get me wrong, And realize that I am 56 years old. I am too f##king old to be running around picking on others. but when someone thinks he or she is going to shut me down. They just might......But not without a good race from me.
I bought my Dakota, after lots of research I know the strong and week poiNts of our Dak's
Besides my wife Kid's and grandchildren my other love is my 96 Zr1 Vette, 32 valves 4 in head cams 16 fuel injectors 6 speed trans. This car runs High 11's low 12's with a few mods. Factory sez 405 HP, Dyno sez 472 Hp.
I cant tell you how many times some younger guy pulls up along side with a Stang thinking that this vett is a 300 horse LT-1 Wrong Wrong.
I reacently raced a new SC Mustang, He was pretty quick. I let kim stay along side ofme till about 140 MPH then I droped into 4th and droped the hammer. At 140 he was close to top end! I was doind about 170 when I let up the SC Stang was at least 15 cars off my Borla exhaust tips. I slowed down to about the limit but he was too chicken s##t to come along side again to Akc. his defeat.

Message: Hi lurkin, I knew that my electronic electric fan controller would generate some attendtion. As you can see by my screen name I am an alarm technician.
The device I am using cant be bought at a store as it was desinged for pro installation....but you might contact a Alarm co in your area....they might sell you one over the counter.
You can also do a search on the web. Type in Winland electronics. there you can view different temp alert devices.
The unit I am using had 3, seven segment(red color) displays mounted on a circuit board. this circuit board is about the size of a post card too big to mount anywhere behind my 02 Dak's dash board. I always custom mount devices like this to look as if it could have come with the Car/Truck. So I desoldered the 3 displays from the printed circuit board and removed the displays. I then glued the displays together using 5 min. epoxy. Next I hooked the displays to the circuit board with color coded 22 AWG wire. I used about 30 inches of wire. It took 32 wires to remote the display from the circuit board.
Now the display is only about 1"x 2 1/2".
Next I bult a custom black abs plate to fit the passenger air bag shut off switch and mounted the display in this cover along with the high temp. pot, A switch to manually turn fan on/off,A roter type switch for my Iat adjustnent and a power switch for my 360 watt alpine 4 channel amp.
The circuit board is now mounted up and under the dash along with my custom home brewed alarm system and several electronic timers.
I made a face plate overlay on my computer for the display dark gray back ground with white letters. It came out very well.
Now you still need to get engine temp info to the electronics.
The temp alert device comes with a on board temp. probe. an option is several different heat/cold range probes that are for remote usage. I ran from the mother board to the cooling systems bleed screw 18 awg wire. This is where I soldered the remote heat probe. Next I drilled a 1/8" hole next to the bleed screw about 1/4" down. The remote is epoxied into the 1/4" hole.
Hope this long one gives you some IDEAS. I cant post photos in here as I am not member yet. But I am willing to help any one out as much as I have time. My EMail is GGalarmtec@AOL.com..........No spam please
Good luck!

Message: The Colorado only come with an inline 5 from what I have read. If they put the 5.3 in that truck my Dakota is down the road to the Chev dealer! I think they are a very nice truck. Just my opinion.

Message: If GM designed the Colorados engine bay correctly(which I doubt) they would have made it large enough to fit the 4.2L inline six(275hp). Since GM owns 30% of Fuji Heavy Industries(parent company of Subaru) maybe they can put the 300hp/300lb-ft 2.5L turbo engine from the Impreza WRX Sti in the Colorado.

Message: GGalarmtec, thanks for the info. Wow, hope you were doing it for fun :-) Sounds much to involved for me, but apparently not for you. For me, a off-the-shelf add-on electric fan probe may be best.
Good ideas though.

Message: Motorweek on PBS tested a 4-door Colorado with the 220 HP I-5 a few months ago. It could only muster 16.5 seconds in the 1/4 mile. The biggest problem is the wimpy 220 ft/lbs torque, which your average V-6 usually has, or better.

Message: Driving home this evening I pulled up along a Colorado with an exhaust loud enough to hear in my truck. Remembering this thread, I figured I would see if he was going to go for it,,, he did.
I didn't step on it real hard, by 40 he was 1/2 a truck ahead of me,,, time to blow out the cob webs ,by 60 he was at my rear bumper. I let off and he went flying by.
Oh yeahhhhh, the next light just turned yellow and I can see him braking! Time to turn off the AC, shift it into 1st and realy make it a race.
AAWWWWW WTF, the guy floored it and ran the red light *%#@&. Guess he didn't want another dose of what he just received.

Message: It's a 2000 4.7 CC auto 3.55 gears. Only mods are the TPS to .72V, homegrown air intake, AIT relocated into the air tube, Raybestos drilled and slotted rotors and a nice big tranny cooler.
Other than that it's bone stock except for putting synthetic oil, ATF and gear lube everywhere possible in the truck, though I highly doubt this makes the truck faster.
Only reason for the mods was to increase gas mileage and towing power, the mods helped out both.
The best money spent on a mod was the Raybestos BruteStop rotors. Had them on for over 6 months, 15K miles, and not a bit of warping, better braking while towing also.

Message: Nice going DSW,
I always like hearing humble kill stories.
As for the brakes, my 02 QC only has 8000K miles. My work peovides me with a 99 CC that has a V6 and I take home every nite. I have had 4 sets of brakes in the 99400 miles iI have driven it. roters every time.
I do carryaround 1100 LBS. all the time fiberglass full box, 3 ladders and lots of batterys and electronic parts.
when the brakes go south on my 02 I will most likely go with the larger 05 roters, spindles ect.
Sounds like your brakes are doing the job.
Best regards.

Message: I don't normally go around racing,,,,, anymore that is, used to have a lot of fun at the strip with my ol' sleeper 350 S-10. Only give away was the big azz tires tucked up under the back fenders. Hey, if some wants to open it up, I'll oblige them with the same.
On the way home this evening I was stopped at the same light and a new F150 pulled up next to me. I was day dreaming and the F150 guy took off like a bat out of he11 and then cut in front of me. Either this is the new drag strip or the guy in the Colorado upgraded. LOL
I wished I had swapped out to the 04/05 calipers/rotors/spindles instead of the Raybestos rotors. It just figures that someone would post that these are backward compatable a couple of months after I put the Raybestos drilled and slotted rotors on.
