Subject: Cat-back or just the muffler? IP: Logged
Message: I plan on purchasing a Dynomax Super Turbo this next week but don't know if I should just get the muffler or if I should get the whole cat back system? What would you guys recommend? Are there pipes better than the factory ones or will they factory ones do just fine?

Message: The factory pipes are very good. I don't see any advantage to replacing them. If you want a better sound, just replace the muffler.

Message: i just got a super turbo it's great, don't mess with a cat back you
really don't need it unless you got money burning a hole in your
pocket or your current exhaust is falling apart

Message: I think there is a little to gain from doing some exhaust work. I replaced my stock exhaust with a magnaflow 14256 and bought a universal tailpipe from flow master. I kept the stock 2.5 size. I had my local midas shop weld it all together. They knew i was performance minded and did a great job. The labor and parts cost me 215 all together. The labor at the shop was only $40. I feel like a gained just a little in the mid RPM's. My gas mileage also improved by 1 mpg. Next i am going to replace the restrictive Y pipe and take off the third cat. Yes i know that this is illegal. Then i'll buy some slip on stainless pipes and run a Y from the precats to the front of the new muffler replacing the bend over my transfer case support. I think the mendral bent pipes will make a noticable difference over the stock press bent pipes.

Message: Don't bother with the pipes unless you're going to a larger size. I went from stock exhaust to 3" single with a flowmaster 40 series 1 in 1 out and no cat. The performance gain was noticeable and it sounded better than any mustang on the road, until jack daniels ran me off the road.

Message: Ok I decided to just buy the muffler after everyones feedback. But now I don't know which I want to get. The Super Turbo or the Ultra flow? Who has used these on their trucks? I like the sound of the Ultra Flow but I don't really want something that is really loud. Is it as loud as a Flowmaster 40 series?
