Message: i call B.S. on that because the guy i know with the 5.3 ext.cab hangs right beside me on my r/t,and i know an r/t will walk on a 4wd 4.7.what is so hard about admitting something of a different brand will beat you?a viper will sure as hell whip my camaro.so will an 03 cobra.you dont see me going around saying i could walk on one.but i dont know, maybe some of you DO have those super 4.7s that can beat anything that im always hearing about.

Message: a while back i borrowed my bosses 99 R/T and raced a silverado with a 5.3. I walked away from him pretty good... both being extended cab and the R/T was completely stock... even the air filter.
luvmez28,
something you gotta understand is not every truck is the same... including some guys 4.7 to some guys 5.3. Hell, i do know there are some strong 4.7s out there... i have seen one dyno 220 rwhp with just an aftermarket muffler... they aint created equal.

Message: i know this is off topic, but why is this site a stinkin non stop add for flowmaster? it seem as if 95% of all you jerks have blowmaster mufflers. there is a lot better stuff out there. maybe if you guys would get a muffler that flows good and sounds good your trucks would make more than the joke 220rwhp that they have. " I have a HIGH PERFORMANCE dakota, yea thats right it has over 200 horses wanna race?........ why even try!!!"

Message: easy there chief..
220 rwhp is a lot more than any average stock R/T... and i didnt say the 4.7 had a flowmaster on it.
now consider the 4.7's stock 235 crank horsepower... and think about it a little
... and this jerk has used flowmaster, dynomax, flotech, edelbrock, matrix, SLP and a couple other mufflers and likes flowmaster best.

Message: 99r/t was a quicker year than my 02 r/t wasnt it?and im saying im a little disappointed with the r/ts performance, and my dispute is that i dont think, and from my experience,a 4.7 cant handle a 5.3,unless the chevy outweighs the dak considerably, like some of these guys are saying in their races.runnin a 2500hd and a 1500ex. cab 4wd?not really fair.one thing i have enjoyed in my r/t is killing slt and sport daks with the 4.7,and i did that all the time.my r/t was stock, save exhaust, but most of the trucks i raced sounded like they had flowbastards anyway.
my r/t pulls on that guys 5.3,barely,so i dont see a stock or "slightly" modded 4.7,close to same weight, doing the same.i really do hate starting flame wars,i jsut dont see things the same way yall are seeing them,AND IM NOT A FREAKIN CHEVY LOVER! lol.

Message: After this weekend I am pretty impressed w/ my 4.7 with no major mods. we only have a 1/8 mile track here in N.E. Arkansas. George Rays, but its all heads-up racing all we have is the tree and the finish line. No trap speeds or nothing like that. Just plain old redneck racing! Old George tries to put all the cars into categories but he don't have time to look for much. especially on street cars. so the trucks that are licensed go into the same bunch unless they are quick enough to race for the money. this weekend we had 9 trucks 3 were dodges my 01 QC and a R/T were the only 2 Daks. In the end a 1500 Ram with some pretty major mods on his 360 and my 4.7 were in the final run, when we crossed the line my front tire was on his back tire. My Dak is a 4x4. I am betting if I can figure out how to keep my intake cold I will own the 360 this weekend. Thats only if the R/T can keep from burning his tires off on the start line. When I raced him All I had time to see was smoke boiling off his back tires lucky for me!!

Message: 00 4.7 awd dakota here. i love my truck but my had just bought a 2500 with a 6.0L and i'm a bit jealous. he's not a racing kind of guy but i am. my truck just has no pull by 4500 or 5000. i just bought a chip and intake from rpmoutlet. any ideas on the exhaust. to not splurge to much on mods i was thinking of just getting a muffler as opposed to a catback. flowmaster delta 50 to be exact. anything else for that second gear passing power i am so desiring. ps 13mpg here and needing some horsepower. off the line it's a beast but my wifes 00 grand am takes me cause it has great passing power. not a bad race just pulling me some by 2nd gear. we'll see after the chip. well back to hp suggestions

Message: At the track a couple of weeks ago, I watched an r/t and a reg cab 2wd 4.7L 5speed race. Who won? The 4.7L pulled it off by almost a full second, a 14.6 to a 15.4! Both drivers had decent reaction times and good launches. Unfortunately R/Ts have an engine that is made for "working" not for accelerating (although it does both pretty well) and it is bogged down with the 46RE automatic. The 4.7L is a more rev friendly engine and responds well where the 5.9L does not, in the upper rpm range. Even with the automatic behind a 4.7L, it would pull very close to a 5.9L. The transmission behind the 4.7 was designed originally for that engine and has gear ratios that perform best with the torque curve that it produces. The 5.9L 46RE combo is, by comparison, an "antique". Consider that the 4.7 is 1.2L smaller and only has 15hp less than the 5.9L. Torque is another story, 40lb-ft less. Which brings up the 5.7L which has 100hp and 35 lb-ft more than the 5.9L and strangely, the 5.7 has 20 more pounds of torque in the 300c and magnums. I guess my point is that although the R/T is a pretty quick truck, it is in no way the performance benchmark, there are far faster trucks out there that sometimes cost less.

Message: scott,
i removed a lot of stuff before i put the big block in. I did a lot of work to my engine bay so that when i opened the hood, all you see is engine. How much of it was required? not much but i'll get some pix if you start up another thread... i dont wanna hijack this one... it's been pretty interesting reading each other bicker.

no i dont.the fact is i think there have been 3 posts, out of probaly a hundred or so,that i have said anything remotely good about chevys.one is this one,the other is a pretty recent one,"will i win" over in v8 daks, and the other is "i give up",a post i started because i was disappointed in my r/t performance, and i was in the process of buying an ls1 fbody.
most of the other posts ive made were simple questions about my r/t,or arguments about racing 4.7s.but alot of them were dedicated to talking crap about poor chevy performance in the silverado SS,SSR,the loss of fbodies, and talking crap to s10 idiots who came on here with their lies.if any of you remember the idoit "chevy power" you know what im talking about.
and about 4.7s,i never found one that could beat my r/t,stock or no stock, but im sure they are probably out there.and i consider my r/t to be slow,so you can imagine i wont have a good opinion on the 4.7s i beat.but i dont race the r/t anymore,i just cruise it every now and then.i dont want to tear on something that "technically" isnt mine.
so if saying one thing positive about chevy makes me a lover, then fine.i suppose some of you would have bs to spew if i started talking up Z06's too?its not mutiny to admit when another brand has something good going for it,even if its on another ones board.
