Message: Cam and manifold selection will likely depend more on how you intend to use it, prices may be similar for different aplications. You could save by milling the heads to raise compression, rather than going with more expensive (but lighter) pistons.

Message: Dakota440: there are a lot of mods to do to a 440, but remember you are dealing with a "Classic
Car Era" and parts can be very expensive.A set of
"1967" closed camber heads, you will have to do valve job and have hardened seats installed for the unleaded gas. Have the heads
milled up to .060 and have the "Intake" side milled also, this way you can change manifolds without having to mill each manifold to match. Aslo recommend a "Hemi oil pump" a windage tray,
and a 6 quart oil pan or more as a stock 5 quart pan doesn't get it.
I had built a 440 engine a number of years ago and the mods are listed below:
Milled heads .060
triple valve springs
teflon valve seals
Solid lifters and cam with adjustable rockers
13:1 pistons fly cut for valves
Hemi oil pump
8 quart oil pan Modified myself
extended oil pick up tube
Tri metal main bearing "with grooves"
double roller chain and sprockets
an 440 Six pack setup with manual linkage.
Curve kit for the dist.
Now how many 440's do you know that the shift point was at 7000 rpms?
Anyways I will see if I still have the Mod info from Chrysler that I use to have. It listed all the Mods for the "B" engines.

Message: dak440,are you going to run it on the street?
if so then 13:1 compression is totally on unreal
for the street,9.5:1-10:1 is all you,ll want on todays gas
first you need to decide how much you want to spend, then what you,re going to[how and what]use
it for,if you have a unlimited budget $6000-10,000 the sky is the limit,if your in the $1000-3000 you have to pick and choose very carefully
the cam and intake are important, they need to work together, same rpm range[power band]
heads, mill them a few thousands this will up the compression some with the stock pistons and a good port and polish
oiling and crank, chaffer the crank, good oil pump
and a extra cap pan
depending on the yr motor it can be bored up to .060,.030 on mid 70s and up
just think it threw, because you can spend alot of money and not get what exspect or want for performance, and spend a little and have more than you thought, the key is planning
400-450hp out of a 440 is pretty easy and cheap,
basic rebuild,cam,intake,headers,port and polish
mp sells a engine book for big blocks that could be very helpful and take some of the guess work out and answer some of your questions
hope this helped
