I have a 1995 dakota extended cab sport with an automatic electric overdrive trans and a 318, the 318 is blown and pulled. I have a 1978 440 with a 727 complete with all brackets and driveshaft. I would like to use the overdrive trans but need to know what needs to be done for the whole swap, since the trans is elcetric can i use it without a special computer or can i just bolt it up like the original 727. Any info would be great. Also looks like i have a prob with the brake booster being to large, wonder if i can use 1 from a dodge van. Also any info on what headders i can use please

Big blocks use a different bellhouse on the tranny, your small block one won't bolt up. Someone makes a kit to cut the small bellhouse off and replace it with big block style, but you're looking at a lot of hassle for a weaker tranny.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

If you really want an overdrive, go with a Gear Vendors unit. They stock a tailshaft assembly that replaces the stock tailshaft. Their overdrive is good for all the frame-twisting power you can muster. Good price too, when you consider the price of using the Ultra Bell system, and still having a weaker unit. Plus, it'll outlast everything else in the truck.
