Message: I have a 1995 dakota extended cab sport with an automatic overdrive trans and a 318, the 318 is blown and pulled. I have a 1978 440 with a 727 complete with all brackets and driveshaft. I would like to use the overdrive trans but need to know what needs to be done for the whole swap. Any info would be great. Also looks like i have a prob with the brake booster being to large, wonder if i can use 1 from a dodge van. Also any info on what headders i can use please.

Message: See JVX/Memphis Performance or UltraBell for the overdrive issue. engine-swaps.com should be able to answer you about the 440 swap. They even have a bolt-in kit for the engine mounts.

Message: Has the 440 been rebuilt with better compression? In 78 the 440's only had like 8:1 compression and didn't make very much power. I'm putting one in my Dart that is a 77 and had to change pistons to up the compression to 9:1 for more power. The problem is those years were "smog" years and nothing made any power...if memory serves me that 440 put out 225-250hp at the most and that was prolly at the crank. Just do the homework before you dive in! But, a big block Dak would be sweet!
