OK, on the 97+ Dak, your high-flow MP headers go in front of the cat - attaching to a long, skinny, full-o-dimples and crumples pipe that leads into the cat itself. Then, you bolt on your high-flow MP 3" cat-back exhaust.

Isn't the whole high-flow thing severely limited by this "looks-like-a-twin-of-the-stock-Y-pipe" headers-to-cat pipe (that remains stock)?

I was wondering the same thing.

I'm not planning on headers (I've heard repeatedly that the 4.7 manifolds are pretty efficient), but I just ordered a Gibson cat-back, and will be building a "home-brew' intake.

Of course I want to get the most out of these mods, but the factory Y-pipe looks much like a petrified vacuum-cleaner hose.

Any opinions are happily welcomed.

i have heard the y-pipe is the weakest link in the exhaust system. just by changing the headers you wont gain much power. you have to do the y-pipe to get the full useage out of your exhaust system.
dont the MP headers come with the y-pipe?

Yeah, they do - but I'm still looking at this lonnnnnng crappy pipe that goes between the cat ant the new Y-pipe. I guess this just stays??

I stand corrected.

Couldn't help it... I just crawled under my truck, and the the Y-pipe is NOT the "accordian-style" that I thought it was. True, it doesn't look like it will ever be considered high-performance, but it isn't like the others I've seen. I musta been looking at the '99 or'00 before... this one has a few (non-mandrel) bends, but I think it will still do the trick.

The pipe diameter ain't that big, but then again, I don't think it will matter much... unless I go with a supercharger or some other MAXIMUM performance mod.
