Message: By itself, it's not a big change, if you are talking about the 4.7. K&N advertises a 5-7HP gain, that's not enough to notice.
When I put a Volant on mine, the only thing I noticed was the intake noise.

Message: I just put the KN FIPK on my 2001 4.7 RC Auto. I already had flomaster exhaust on it.
The intake did make quite a bit more noise, I've noticed it goes through first gear a little quicker than it used to. By that I mean I can accelerate up through first more quickly. I also have to feather it a bit more as I don't have an LSD. But Lurkin was right, it's not a huge gain.

Message: I have a K&N FIPK on my 98 Dakota 5.2L with a AirRaid throttle body spacer. I have been waiting to purchase the new exhaust. But my intake setup has definately made an impact. The truck has a mean growl to it now, can't wait to put on the exhausts to complete the package.

Message: Keep in mind that the air intakes for the 5.2/5.9 engines appear to make more of a difference.
Since I've never had one of these, it's all hearsay, but from what I've read and experienced, the 4.7 has less room for improvement in the intake and exhaust dept. Not to say there are not improvements that can be made, but they are smaller deltas in power then in the past.

Message: I agree fully with Lurkin.
The power gains I have witnessed with a home-brew intake, true dual exhaust, moving sensors around, enlarged throt. body, and Autolite plugs have been minimal in the grand scheme of things. My 4.7 sounds mean, looks good, and does what I want to do; but to get real power means Nos, Supercharger, Turbocharger, headers, porting and polishing, new (or reprogrammed PCM), etc.
In the end, the 4.7 is a nice engine with good engineering... and anything short of the above mentioned will only be for small HP gains, peace of mind, and a healthy V8 rumble.
