Subject: KB optimizer 2: what is it?
IP: Logged

Message:
Pardon the foolish question, but what does the optimizer do (besides fine tune your comp for HP)? Is it a flash of sorts or does it just tweak the current flash. I only ask cause I'm pretty sure I have the dreaded "death flash" for my 2000 4.7L (idle problems).

See, cause I was wondering if I would get the best results from the opti. combined with the "death flash", or would it not make a difference.

With that said, can anyone tell me that the Leach flash would be worth the money or should I save a few $$$ and get the opti2 leaving behind a some HP/TQ?

Let me know

it is a computer flash. I have had mone for about a year and a half. I never had a leach so it is hard to say which is better. Leach will remove your speed limiter kenne-bell will not.

ive never seen a comparison dyno to know whihc one makes more power.

I think someone once posted the spark advance with the Kennebel is within 1 degree of the Leach flash so I'd expect performance to be similar. I believe either one will overwrite your "death flash". If you call about the Leach flash, have the # on your PCM handy - they know programs they have overwritten successfully, and maybe some they can't. I'm very pleased with the Leach - good power gain but I can still run 87 octane except when towing, then I have to plan to run the good stuff. You might ask KB how much spark advance you get with their flash, I've posted Leach #s in the past but don't recall without looking it up.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

don't look for kenne-bell to give you much information on what they changel, I've tried and its like the skunk works in rancho cucamunga or something.

I run 87 all times except towing as well no pings.

can you still run 87 or 89 octane on the opti2?

Hey canadak... fellow canadian here(Kitchener, Ontario)... I have the kenne bell charger which comes with a flash(of course)..... kenne bell will burn your flash to whatever octane rating you want. But, best peformance comes with the 92. I wouldn't bother if your not willing to pay the extra for the 92.

my experience with the computer itself is very positive, I am more then happy with it.

my experience with kenne-bell is lacking, they are playing ti smart. however it seems to be overkill in there legal liability department.
