Message: HI, I'm new to this site but have owned my
'92 CC 5.2 auto 4X4 for 12 yrs now and am very happy with it. Would like to get some advice on performance tips form you xperts.
Everything is stock except;
K&N air filter
Jet Stage II chip
3" exhaust
Low resistance cat. conv. (sounds great)
What is the PCM I keep hearing about and where is it located? Should I (could I ) reprogram it for more HP? What else could I do for more power within a limited budget?
125K and still runs strong but needs a boost.
Thanks

pcm is mounted on the fender and is the brain for all the sensor
input and handles all on the fly adjustments

Message: You can have your PCM flashed(reprogrammed) by KenneBell or KRC performance(there's probably a few more who can do it but I can't think of any more names at the moment). If you do get your PCM flashed you'll have to dump the Jet stage II because the flashed PCM will make the Jet useless.
A larger throttle body and high flow intake will help a bit.
By the way, what brand of catalytic converter do you have on your truck?

Message: Thanks for the quick response. I have heard that if I disconnect the PCM for a few minutes then reconnect it will re-program itself with the mods in place. Is that correct? How much difference would there be between my Stage II chip and reprogramming my stock chip?
Who would I contact about the larger TB?
How do I find out what rearend ratio I have?
Lots of questions but I have decided to keep the truck a few more years and want it performing top notch.
Thanks for the help.

Message: Not sure on that gen Dakota, but open up your glovebox, it should be written on the backside of the opening to the glovebox. As for resetting the PCM, easiest way is pull off your negative on the battery terminal, turn ignition to start for 15 seconds, then reconnect negative to battery. Will take about 50 miles (I think) to do an initial "learning curve", and 400-500 miles to do a full learning curve to train it. With mild mods, it automatically re-learns. With more drastic mods, it needs to be reset. This also helps clear out any pesky MIL codes :-)
As for the larger TB, I'm not sure on Gen2's, but I believe the way to go there is just to get a stock TB off a 318, but again, I'm not sure on Gen 2's. The linkage might be different on them. You can try http://www.socaldakota.com/ , and maybe http://www.krcperformance.com/newcontent/home.html . The F&B TB is the way to go, as those are very nice. Have the 50mm F&B on my Dakota. Personally, I don't think the F&B really helped much, and the time slips show that. I think it *may* have helped a little bit on the top end, but nothing great.
Don't think the Jet Stage 2 kits make much difference on those Gen 2's. If possible, go with a Moper PCM. If not, get one programmed. With not having many mods, best guess is 10-15 hp, possibly more. That varies with the mods you have.
All in all, I would say my biggest improvements would be the Cold Air intake, Hypertech (at that time, but again, the Mopar PCM is better, and not sure how well the hypertechs work on gen2's), Catback exhaust. Followed by Headers & intake manifold, mainly because they help prevent detonation :-)

Message: Way to fast of responses............. :)
Thanks.
On the cold air intake where do I find one to buy or modify. I am also going to install a 180 therm this weekend. As for the Mopar PCM, is that a different part then what I have and if so where do I go to get one and have it programed? Isn't the Hypertec like the Jet and if I get the Mopar would I not need the Jet or Hypertec?
Thanks again
