Subject: 3.9 to 5.9 swap
IP: Logged

Message:
I started my automotive training this summer at a local technical college. As a project, Im looking to buy a used 5.9, rebuild it, and it into my 3.9 97 Dak. I know I will need to get the engine, transmission, computer, things like that. Can anyone foresee any problems doing this? Im sure someone has done this before, and Im curious if it is as easy as pulling the stock engine and setting the new one in. Any input is well appreciated.
Thanks guys!

besure to get a tranny for a 97 and older (not sure how old it will take though) because your speed sensor is in the tranny and the 1998 and newer are in the axle.

Since a 5.9 wasnt offered in a 1997 Dakota, you will need the computer for a 97 5.9 Ram.

6.6 Lt. Big Block, 727 TF shift kit, 452 heads, edelbrock 750 cfm, .513/.513 284/300 crower cam, comp cams springs, comp cams pushrods, 1.5 roller rockers, dp intake, mopar ignition, mopar windage tray, dual exhaust w/ 40 series flowmasters, 4.10 gears, coilover drag suspension, approx, 3500 lbs
