If the pulley is slipping when you hit the wrench, more than likely you should think of replacing the belt... its probably worn out... plus once you have that fan off you want to make sure the pump is working at its best...

Just for anyone who cares...
I removed my fan this weekend...Cost...$20 for a thermostat switch and about 1 hour.
Just in driving this weekend it appears that I will gain about 1MPG from removing it. This is after only about half a tank of gas or so.
I do need to rewire that switch to have an external relay vs using the stock one.

I had the switch just turn on the relay which turns on the fan, but it causes the computer to throw an engine code for that circuit.

Hey guys what is the real deal with these fans? I took my fan off also, 04 4.7 my guage is running at half way. What do you think the tempature is at that point? I hear the fan kick on at that point but is that too hot? Does anybody know how to wire a thermostatic switch to the factory e-fan? I woulde like to have it come on a little sooner maybe at 200 instead of the factory 215 and still be able to have it come on when I kick the a/c on without throwing a trouble code? Thanks Chuck

the factory setpoint is 210. there is a way to wire in a thermo switch to the stock fan and have still come on with the a/c. it was posted on here a couple of years ago. youo'll have to do some searching for it.

start here: http://mark.dodgedakotas.com/
