Subject: Dakota Tranny upgrade options IP: Logged
Message: I have a 97 Dakota with 38.5" swampers. I have about 120K miles with about 60K of those with the swampers. I just know that I am on borrowed time with the transmission. It hasent started acking up at all, but I want to be prepared when the time comes to yank it. I can't really seem to find any good information on heavy duty swap or rebuild options. I don't want to go to a 727. I would rather swap it with a drop in that is stronger than the 44re. Does any one know what the strongest stock dakota tranny is? Does anyone know of a rebuilder (TCI or JET etc) that offers a heavy duty rebuild for one of the A500 series transmissions? Does adding a shift kit to a stock tranny actually make it any stronger or just shift tighter? Thanks for the help guys.
