Message: It will still sound like a 4 cylinder. But it can vary so much on engine size, exhaust, etc.
For example I've got a 40 series on my 4.7. Love the piss out of it.
Had a Chrysler V6 not too long ago (wife's car) I put the same kind of Flowmaster 40 series on it. It sounded like complete Dog Crap no matter where I located it, etc. The small 2.5 Liter V6 just has a sh*tty sound to begin with, so amplifying it was just retarded actually.
So I wound up installing a glasspack in place of the resonator midway under the car and a cheaper Holley muffler in back to shut it up again. Took the FLowmaster off of the Chrysler and welded it up on my friends old Chevy Beretta 3.1 V6. Apples to Oranges. The Chevy FWD (not a Chevy fan or anything) just has the BEST V6 sound to begin with. Don't know if it's as simple as the angle of the V6 or what, but they sound ok, while the Mitsubishi V6's sound like sh*t loud.
As for the 4 cylinder Dak, I have no idea. There are some 4 banger Toyota's around here with them, they sound like loud weed wackers. There are also many V6 Dakota's around here running fake duals and loud mufflers with the V6 emblem torn off leaving only the MAGNUM part on. They aint fooling anybody.
If I were you I'd try to find someone with what you want before spending your money. But again I also have to sometimes try things for myself to see what I thing myself. There's things I've done that sounded so bad I had to remove it. I'm talking from experience. :-(
I'm just happy to have a V8 again with a nice sound to start with. The 4.7 has one really good exhaust tone to work with.
