Subject: The neverending exhaust debate IP: Logged
Message: Alright, I want to get a new exhaust, and I've pretty much got it down to either Flowmaster or Dynomax. My only question is should I order a complete cat-back kit or just a muffler? Or should I order the muffler, then go and buy the pipes myself? After I get that done, then I'll go get a hig-flow cat put on. Any suggestions?

sounds awesome.however, this is coming from someone who hates flowmaster and dynomax.

Message: MBRP. I've the 3.5" stainless steel catback and the sound is just right. Especially with the 360Intake. Just my 2 cents.

It may actually be cheaper to buy the muffler online and take it
to a shop and have them make the other pipes. It was for me. I
got a Dynomax Super Turbo (quieter than that annoying
Blowmaster and its the same size) and had my shop make me a
2 1"/2 intermediate pipe and 2 1/2" tailpipe.

Message: Save money, cut the muffler off, get headers and a highflow cat. You can do this yourself and you'll make way more power.

Message: I got a 2000 4.7L, and I would add headers and sh*t but I don't want to do anything that voids my warranty for awhile. I liked how the Dynomax sounded, and had been thinking about just getting the muffler, b/c the stock pipes are 2.5" already. Suggestions are always welcome. MBRP and Spintech? I'll have to check into those a bit.

Message: You do know that adding headers or any other part doesn't void your warranty unless the dealer can prove your item caused whatever the problem is you are having. The Magnusson Moss Act covers this.

Message: Really???? No I didn't know that. I thought it'll void my warranty. So I can add headers to my truck and it's still under warranty??? That's kicka**.

Message: So I'm thinking 'bout gettin a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler, and puttin that on. I think it's a 3" in/ 3" out, so all I'd have to do is get a new tail pipe and a reducer for the intermediate pipes. This sound about right?

Message: From what the dealer told me was that you lose your warranty on the EXHAUST, obviously because you modified it. But that new law means that they can;t void your warranty on your engine or something else on the truck unless it was DIRECTLY caused by your exhaust mod, etc.
BTW. I STILL like Flowmaster. Look at those others people rant and rave about these other mufflers. Some of them are nothing but a GLASSPACK wrapped in a muffler looking casing!!! Look at a cut away at some. You could for that matter buy a GLASSPACK for $30. I like my $75 3" Flowmaster.
Here's my sound sample. http://www.paysonarizona.net/DakFlow.mp3

Message: The Gibson is way outside my price range. I'm thinkin Dynomax or Flowmaster, just gettin a muffler and running a new tail pipe. For now that is. It'll save me money on gettin a whole cat-back, which I can get the pipes for later on.

Message: If you want loud the the 3" pipes and a Blowmaster will do it for you. If you don't want an annoyingly loud muffler then get the Dynomax super turbo. I've owned both.
I should have clarified about the Magnusson Moss act. Yes if you put headers on they could void any exhaust warranty but can't just indiscriminately refuse warranty work on anything else in general.

Message: If you get the FLowmasters. Get the 40 series Delta Flow.
It's kind of loud on the outside, but I don't get any annoying resonance inside the cab and NO drone associated with other types of Flowmasters.
Sounds better than about any other truck I hear around here.
I plan on running true duals at one point.
Everyone I've known who had a NASTY street drivable car always ran Flowmasters if they ran ANY muffler at all. And I'm not talking like our trucks. I mean small blocks that ran 7 to 8K RPM's and were BARELY drivable on the street. 5 MPG or whatever.

Message: I have a quick question I am looking at doing the same thing I want to just buy the muffler online and take it to the shop and have it installed with new pipes the only question is what muffler to go with I want to go with the flowmaster 40 series single 3" inlet and dual 2.5 outlet I was wondering how two of these will sound on my 2000 5.9. Anyone have input

Message: Another question to add to that is should I get one muffler and run two pipes or buy two mufflers and just have them placed one the very ends of the exhaust with four tail pipes. Also if anyone knows the difference between the original flowmasters and delta flow which one is better performance wise.

Message: I disagree with DUAL outlets unless you got the TRUE DUAL pipes coming from the manifolds all the way back!!!
Otherwords, if you are going to be single exhaust through a single cat, just run a good single pipe through a single inlet/outlet muffler. I don't like fake anything, and that goes for fake duals as well. I bet 99.9% of the trucks I see on the road with duals out the rear are just split from one pipe. What suckers.

Message: GraphiteDak
I totally agree with you I really have been waiting and saving up because I feel if I am going to pay for exhaust why not pay for the best and start with new headers and work all the way back into true duals. I know exactly what you are saying and you are probably right about everyone having fake duals I am wondering how a 5.9 would sound with a x pipe and ture duals. Do you know anyone that has this setup on any dakota at all?
