Subject: HEMI or Cummins? IP: Logged
Message: Hey all,
Later this year I will finally be able to afford the Ram I've been wanting. Yes, I'm keeping my Dakota still (it's going to be my offroader). I just can't decide... HEMI or Cummins? I am definitely going to get it with a manual tranny. The extra cost of the Cummins doesn't bother me. I will have mostly short, city trips with some (4 times a year, maybe) cross-country (SC to CO and back) trips. I may end up pulling the Dakota on a trailer using the Ram (the dak probably won't be road legal when I'm done with it). I also want to be able to smoke the rice grinders when I feel the need.
So, which engine do you think would fit me best?
Thanks in advance,
Alex

Message: Cummins. Its fun to see diesels run in the 14's with little work. Thats if you can see them threw the smoke.

Message: Cummins. Easy to get extra power with minor mods and diesel is only 1.60 a gallon.

Message: Cummins..you can get lots of power out of them.
Remember..Horsepower sells cars, Torque wins races
and a Cummins has uber-torque

Message: I say cummins. My brother-in-law has one. The only mod that he has made is using a Hypertech programmer. That thing has gobs of torque. Hes about to get an exhaust and intake. Im definitely gonna race him with my dak.

Message: Another vote for Cummins - even if a sushi sled beats you, how much pride could they have bragging to their buddies about beating a diesel.

Message: Once again, Cummins. The torque just can't be beat for a tow vehicle. I'm really not that impressed with the power numbers for the hemi. And look at the cost of gas vs. diesel fuel.

I LOVE IT !!
The new 600 Cummins in the new Dodge Ram is even better!

Message: Another vote for the Cummins. I should have gotten the Cummins. For the money I have spent on my '03 Dak QC 5.9L for small performance improvements, the Cummins would have been the way to go. In the words of a co-worker, real trucks have diesel engines because gas trucks are just big cars.

Has anyone here heard a rumor about a 4 cyl. Cummins Turbo
soon to be offered in the 1500 Ram ?
My local Dodge salesman told me about it but so far he is the
only one that has mentioned it.
Fact or Fiction ?

Message: It's Cummins not Cummings. The 50 state legal cummins is rated for 555 because of california emissions. Cummins has a second engine for the united states which is an HO version and has 600 torque. At least that's what I gather, being that I live in canada the only engine available is the 600.
