Subject: timing setting? IP: Logged
Message: does anyone know where the timing is supposed to be set at on a 93 3.9 v6 magnum? the book says look under the hood, and under the hood says look in the book. I called autozone and they said theres no adjustment, BULL. I changed the timing chain and want to check to make sure its right. stock chain because the cloyes double roller I got from jegs didnt fit and nobody in this mail order town had one.

Message: ignition timing is controlled by the computer, cam timing is another matter altogether. if you lined up the marks as the instructions that came with it told you to, (you did read the instruction sheet right?) there is no other adjustment except to gegree it in. and that is fully explained on the "Timing Chain and Tensioner" post on the homepage. Now be a good little bulltamer and go there and read/see it.

Message: Spark timing is controlled by sensor
in trans bell housing ( up very close to engine
passenger side of dist. )
Fuel injector timing is controlled by sensor
in dist ..
Both may be affected , and also valve timing
by your setting of timing chain and gears..
For info on setting the chain and gears

Message: I have a '95 Dodge Dakota. The timing chain was extremely loose, 1"-1.5" of play. I assume it was running a few degrees off timing? I replaced the gears and chain, but now when I try to turn the engine over the ignition and starter are locked out like the timing is off. Everything is TDC on compression stroke, rotor pointing at piston #1. It appears as though the computer is not adjusting the timing back to the correct timing alignment and tight chain. How do I fix this since on a '95 the timing is set by the compuer and not manually with a timing light?

not true dork, it is controlled by a magnet in the canshaft that is sensed by a sensor mounted to the block.

Message: Uh...magnet in the canshaft (I think you meant camshaft)but still, when did someone sneek this magnet into your camshaft?? I'll have to look for the "magnet access door" next time I change out my camshaft. Maybe my cam lost is magnaticity and that why I'm running rich...hmmm...
