Subject: How is the Kenne Bell Charger?

Message:
I'm hoping I can get some input from anyone that installed the kenne bell supercharger on a 4.7L? How is the performance out on the street everyday? From the chart that is on www.kennebell.net it doesn't look like it has much of a gain down in the low RPMs like it should when compared to their kits for other vehicles. I wanted to know if you can feel more power in the lower RPM range or is it just all up top? Before I shell out $4000 I would like to know if it will put me back in the seat! LOL I also tow my boat with the truck and could use more power 3500rpm and down. Any input anyone can give me would be much apreciated.

I have the kenne bell and there is gobs of torque on the low end. The torque hits at 2000 rpm and is a flat curve. I dyno'd at 317 ft/lbs and that came on at 2000 rpm. 262 hrs as well.

Thanks for the info! That is what I'm looking for! Street power, not track power. I read in some old posts on here that people were having shifting problems after installing the kit but on the Kenne Bell site they say that they have "taken care" of that problem with a re-flash of the PCM. Do you have any transmision problems such as akward shifting? Thanks again.

I wish it would shift "harder" but other than that no.

You can make your truck shift harder by removing the TRD link wire from the pcm connector. This will only work on pre-NGC vehicles. The Next Gen Controller has the trans controller built in and you can't remove the wire. If you have an 02 or earlier 4.7L auto you can remove pin 13 from the gray pcm connector. The wire color is YL/DG. This will remove the "Torque management" input from the pcm, which retards timing at the shift point during full throttle shifts. It will not turn on your check engine light or adversely affect the way your trans shifts during normal driving. I have done this on my own truck and the trans shifts much quicker. You can remove the pin with a special tool or you can just clip it and tape it back into the harness if you want to solder it back together later on. Be sure to leave enough wire so you can reattach it. The torgue management feature is for smooth shifts but also for increased durability. Just so you know, when the trans shifts harder it is also harder on its internal components should some warranty "issues" arise. These transmissions have been extremely reliable and rarely fail. Have fun.

Thanks..... I've heard of that mod but was unwilling to do it cuz i thought it would cause a code. I think i may do that and then hook it up to a switch in my cab so i can turn it off and on.
