Just looking for some feedback on which tires you guys use at the strip? I'm looking into purchasing as set of 15" rims with a decent drag radial. But really wanted to know if the 16" or 17" tires were worth the extra money?

No. For drag racing, you'd want 15s. I'd go with the Mickey Thompson E/T Streets for tires.

The E/T Streets get my vote also. Won't find any more traction unless you go to a slick.

drag radials suck.if you want a tire just for the strip get a set of 15s and put some real slicks on them.change tires when you get out to the track.

i had problems with drag radials out at the track and everyone else i know hated them too.once you start putting a lot of power to the ground drag radials suck, and they dont last very long.i had much improved times with real slicks.

hey,
drag radials work great on 200hp and down applications.if all you ever want to run are high 15s-16s,go for it,great investment!or if you have horsepower, waste the $350 plus on drag radials that will only work well once or twice before you burn them up.

Yea, but I can drive mine on the street, and can use the extra traction when those mustang's and camero's want to play. This way I don't have to ask them to wait for me to go home and change my tires. Drag slick's work great at the track, but you can't drive them all the time.

a wide set of beefy radials work better on the street than any "drag" radials ive ever seen.they lkast longer too.drag radials have a quick wear down with daily driving.drag radials arent worth the money.any real torque will eat drag radials up after a few runs, even on the street.and this guy was asking about tires on the strip anyway.and who needs great traction to beat v6 mustangs and CAMAROS anyway?those are the only ones youre gonna beat with a dakota.

BTW,i currently own an R/T and an SS camaro, and no way the truck is even coming close.

HEY, drgradialsuc just because your R/T can't keep up with a camaro, you went and bought one. By the way, I would shoot the gut's out of my R/T befor I let a Mustang (v8) beat me. I havent had the chance to run a (ss) camaro yet, but there's enough gas in the bottle for it also.

ha,your r/t couldnt keep up with my SS,let alone a stock one.not gonna get in a flame war with you though.i dont make it a point to waste my time and race trucks.so dont even ask me what my camaro runs because im not going to argue.i bought the r/t because i wanted a truck with balls that is quick,i bought an SS because i wanted a FAST sports car.and the Ls-1 has endless potential.comparing the two is rather stupid and im sorry i did.

it would take at least 5k for an r/t to keep up with an SS,then i could spend 1k on my SS and blow the truck away again.not worth it for me.plus, the car is more efficient and the SS doesnt have all the problems that dodge dakotas are world reknown for now.ive had to have dealer work done on my r/t several times now, never once with the SS.

I was looking for opinions on drag radials not who has the fastest car. You chevy guy could really use a hug. My uncle has a 1994 camaro white with red strips and we usually do brackets at the track. Last Wednesday I went 14.3 and beat him head up. Then the next run his ignition went pickup or something and I had to tow his ass home. Chevy's rule

your talkin crap about chevy, because your one year old dak r/t didnt break and your uncle's 10year old, ragged out bracket car did. so you beat him with a 14.3 thats about what a stock LT1 runs, this ones 10 years old. how much Coin did you spend to make your R/T run an "impressive" low 14 ?

and the camaro in question is an LS1 SS which rus a low 13 stock. add a S/C to your dak and it will hang, posibly even beating it--but there gose about 5 large

as to the drag radial question. dont get drag radials, get street slicks, like the mickey thompson e/t street. they have a wrinkle wall just like a slick but also have several small grooves cut in the foot print. this has no affect in there performance, but is enough to get them D.O.T. approved. one thing to remimber is that wrinkle wall tires dont favor you turning to sharp. they are made for strait line performance, but if you only put them on for a cruse night or a weekend, you will be fine

Ok, to tell you the truth i didnt know they made two styles of the E/T street. when i got my slicks last year they didn't have them. that said i would still get the E/T street's over the E/T street radial, unless you plan to make them your primary tire. which you dont plan on doing, since your getting a diff set of rims right?

but i'v missed your original question: "are 16" or 17" tires worth the extra money?" i dont think so, i would definitely stay with a 15" wheel.
