I am a proud owner of a 2000 dakota r/t cc. This Idiot down the street from me got a 04 corvette auto coupe. Is it possible for me to put some money into my truck and have it beat his damn chevy?

Its possible but plan on investing $8-$10K. Your best route would be to get a decent blower with all necessary fuel mngt etc. Along with a host of other bolt ons. Then you will have to deal with the dog transmission. After you have spent $8-$10K you would most likely run somewhere in the mid to low 12s assuming it was built right. Just dont plan on beating him on the freeway.
You have some major disadvantages here. The weight of the r/t, especially a cc and the fact that its not nearly as aerodynamic as a vette are the main ones.
You could spend less if you wanted to just do bolt ons and run N2O. Just not realistic imo. Get an SRT-10 and be done with it!

i am the same proud owner.. and you dont need much.. a nice procharger.. and new cam.. maybe some bolt ons.. like a Jet MAF (only thing i like from them is the mass air flow) if you really wanna waste put a small shot of NOS in there after your procharger :)

Blower of choice-$4000 or NX 150 shot-$600
Mopar PCM-$350
F&B/Fastman t/b-$250-$450
M1 intake manifold-$425
Harland Sharp roller rockers-$450
PPH headers-$450
Exhaust of choice-$200-$500
Transgo shift kit-$100
and last and most important: slicks-$350
You could even go w/ a stall converter and 4.56 gears. Those should be at most, $7000. With that and the price of your dak, it should be cheaper than a Vette, too. Talk about being pissed. You haven't seen pissed until you see his face after he loses the race. That SRT-10 wouldn't stand a chance, either.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Who would waste money trying to beat a Corvette with a heavy slow truck? You know what, why don't you just send me the money I'll put it to good use like a down payment for a house.
If you have to beat the guy with a Mopar go find a Coronet or a Valiant and make that fast. It wouldn't cost you anywhere near what it will cost for that Dakota. And it will humiliate him even more if it's a junky looking 4 door Valiant with a bad ass quiet engine in it.

First of all I own a 02 dak. flame red 4x4 with most of the good options.
I also own a 96 Zr1 vette. Let me tell you a Vette is not always just a vette. The Zr1 is a 4 bolt. 4 cams,16 injectors 10.5 comp. 6800 rpm motor that puts out 405 chevy HP.Real HP is 475. I can show most Vipers a good time.
My Zr1 runs high 11's- low 12's it only has a few mods. Oh by the way top speed is around 180mph. I bought it in 2000 for 30K and some change.
Why the F==K would any one with a Dakota,sport or R/T want to try to beat a FAST Vette? Even a Vette with just a 350 auto with 3.50 rear is going to produce around a mid 12 second run. Okay perhaps a low 13. the point I am making you want to out run a Vette? just spin that 4x4 knob on your lower dash to the right of the steering wheel and steer for the great off road..........
Dakota's are great trucks I really like mine. My Zr1 is a fantastic road car I got them both for less than a Viper.

How come I see nothing about new rods? Boost your HP more than 150-175, you should probably tear into the lower end and go with some real forged rods and a new crank?

It's possible to do. Would take a whole lot of cash though. Even then it would be very difficult to make it a daily driver. I myself would be happy having the fastest truck on the block and let the Vette be. Just my 2 cents

Dont listen to these morons. I corvetteruns low 13s in the 1/4 mile. If it is a z06 it runs mid to low 12's. Of course you can put enough money in your truck to run faster than this. There are many dakotas in the 11's.

I got a great idea, put (2) 528s in your car, you can mount them
one in front of the other and stick some kind of shaft thingy to
connect them, double your horsepower, double your fun.

I guess I must be kidding, but my 91 Dakota with a Carbed 390 and a 200 shot of nitrous has run a best 1/4 mile of 11.15 NO KIDDING HERE. My truck is a club cab also, so it is very possible. It's all in what you want to do and are willing to spend.

Now that's what I call polution. They should just empty the fuel tank out on to the ground. Atleast some of it would evaporate. I'm sorry, but, that is a complete waste of money IMO. I guess everything is ok unless a corner comes up.
The RX7 could be built to do 10s for a tiny fraction of the cost and take corners well too.
It was enertaining though.
That pretty much sums up this thread. Trucks are not built to be race cars (Corvettes are really). Insane amounts resources are required to make a truck perform like that.
