Message: Alright, Now that I know I can work with a big V8 (in my 95 extended cab) what is my best engine option in terms of power? A 440 still sounds good, but a Hemi sounds even better. I also like the idea of a supercharger. A big blower sticking out of the hood matched with a Hemi would look sweet. Depending on what kind of engine you guys recomend what kind of tranny would be best? Also what should I go with for a rear end? I am looking to turn this truck into a custom hot rod-style vehicle and really apreciate all of you-guy's input. Feel free to e-mail me with any suggestions (powertrain and/or body styling).
-Also from now on my postings will be under PROJECT HOT ROD.

Message: You should consider weight as well as power. The old 440 six packs would keep up with the hemi on the street; the hemi is a heavier motor. Maybe even think B motor instead of RB; 451 (stroked 400) is lighter still, and some consider it stronger with the shorter block. Simplest tranny would be a big block 727.

Message: Rearend with that much power? Dana 60. Hands down. Tranny? A well-built 727, or equally well-built A518. With the money, I'd go HD727, and if overdrive was needed, get a Gear Vendors unit for 727. Kowalski makes a very valid point on the weight issue. Naturally, ultimate power is the Hemi domain, but those heads weigh a lot, and it's way out on the nose. This was an issue in the Hemi 'Cuda, so you can imagine how the weight imbalance would be in a Dak. Also, you start talkin' Hemi, and the $ factor goes through the roof. I mean, if ya got the cash, go for it. Also consider that with so much power, wheel tubs are a consideration.

Message: I would go with a 440, I saw a couple of chargers down at the track on Friday. Both of them were RT Chargers with 440's one was plum crazy and the other was an olive colour, both were smoking fast.
