Subject: add rear sway bar easily? IP: Logged
Message: hi all,
my '99 clubcab base pkg did not come with a rear sway bar. i've been thinking about getting one, and am wondering if anyone knows if my truck would need any drilling to add one.
i was looking at the Hellwig 7/8" sway bar made for a 99 2wd dak. just not sure if this will be a direct bolt on item or what. that website cant even decide. lol.
also, i've heard good things about the dodge r/t rear sway bar. how does this compare to a Hellwig, and would it be an easier fit?
thanks!
Jeff '99 3.9 clubcab

Message: What do you have on the front? It should be a matched set. If you use a large aftermarket unit on the rear, make sure you add the same for the front. Otherwise, just go to the boneyard and get a used one. They never wear out.

Message: I think I drilled one hole on each side when I installed mine. It's a fairly easy install, just watch out for your brake lines that they don't get crushed under the "U" bolts. You will see a big difference. Good luck.

Message: I installed a factory R/T rear bar on my '01 RC. It is larger diameter than the Sport model. The bar helps with cornering over bumpy surfaces, and in cross winds, not to mention smooth pavement benefits.

Message: um, the "real" answer is on the web site quoted in the original post: "fast, easy, bolt-on installation". If you're still unclear about that, check Hellwig's web site: "Fast, easy “Bolt-on” installation with simple hand tools."
Factory stock bars are truly a simple bolt on. You just remove it from one truck and bolt it on to the next one. If you remove it yourself, it's easier to fit it on to your own truck.
Proper fitment also requires proper selection, as I stated.

Message: Jeff, i put one of those on my 99 Club Cab just two months after i bought it. Works nice and install was easy though a little tedious. Having someone to help hold the bar would make it go faster and easier with much less cussing.
