Subject: Air intake system for a 4.7L IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys, I know there is already a post somewhere in here about air intake systems on a 4.7, but i can't find it now. Anyway, I have heard the AEM Brute Force alot on the boards, so what would you suggest for the most power and airflow on my new 4.7 QC 4x4? What seems to work for you guys? Thanks!

Message: thanks black, I have heard of all those manufacturers. Eventually I would like to get a functional ram air hood to work with my intake system. Does an increase in the air also mean I will need to up the fuel mix? I would assume not with just an intake. What did you put on your dak?

Message: Your computer will adjust itself to the increase in air flow. Might want to reset the computer so it won`t have to re-learn over 2 to 3 hundred miles.(probably will run like crap for a bit if you don`t) After you disconnect the neg battery cable and turn key to start for 20-30 secs, let it idle for at least a minute without touching the accelerator.

Message: There is also another company out there with better gains than any other intake on the market.
roarinc.com has an intake that boasts something like 11rwhp for a 4.7L Dak. They have dyno sheets on their web page.
It is expensive though. I think it runs $339 for the intake. But then again you'll probably pay the same amount for an AEM brute force intake and get less power out of it.
I'm not advertising for these guys I just want someone to try it. I'd get one but I just spent a crap load of money on 5 used r/t wheels, 4 new Kumho's, and a bunch of repair work. So i'm done upgrading at least for a few months.

Message: Pull up the post "What is the best intake?" under search for some hombrew info. I made a simple system using Vibrant 3" aluminum tubes to the stock airbox, K&N drop-in, and Fernco inlet for about $120. The system works best with a less restrictive exhaust.

Message: Visit my website for a list of all the homebrew intake webpages with some opinions about this mod. The homebrew is not offroad water proof, but neither is most $300 aftermarket intakes either.

P.S. Do not believe what the manufacturers of the $300 intakes say about melting pvc. I have used mine for 3000 miles and had no problems. Also, PVC does not conduct heat like the metal tubes do.

Message: Thanks guys, I have been hearing ALOT about everyone's home brew. Right now I am looking around and the home brew isn't out of the running, but I do want to know the manufactured options. Has anyone put a manufactured intake on their truck? Anyone know if AEM or K&N is the better brands as far as the small performance differences? Btw, the roarinc intake site has vey little info on their systems. Thanks again.

Message: I thought the roarinc.com site had lots of info on their intakes. Far more than the others actually.
Anyhow, I've got a 4" Intenseperformance z-tube with 9" Pro-Flow filter. I like it but I have no numbers to back it up. With the z-tube you get a bracket that relocates your cruise control. This was a bit of a pain. I got a deal on a used one from a guy that was in new condition.
If you're looking to save a buck i'd recommend the 360airintakez system. At $170 bucks it'll probably give the same gains as the aem, intensperformance, or K&N.
