Subject: Another TPS voltage? IP: Logged
Message: OK, I know what the optimal voltage is and how to read and set it but does the voltage differ from sensor to sensor? Or is it the throttle body sensor 'hole' that can vary? Lets say where the sensor mounts is machined slightly different the reason they vary. Mine reads .55. I am getting a Fastman 'true bore' 68mm TB and was wondering if after this the voltage will differ.....
Tx,
John

Message: My personal experience is that they can vary within the same model year. Posts that I've read on the DML indicate that they also differ from year to year models. Seems like the older Daks (92-95) have a lower minimum voltage. On scanners with capability, there is a "reset minimum tps voltage" so that the computer sees what minimum voltage of the tps is and then set up things for optimal performance.

Message: 68mm?!?! Damn, you running a Turbo? either way, make it adjustable, the sensors are fairly accurate to each other, and its not going to vary that much from one to another.... think about it, the electrical current travels less than an inch inside, it's gong to be PRETTY accurate from one to the next, even in mass produced quantities, they also do spec checks to ensure a basic level before it's passed on to be installed.

Message: Matt - that's the normal size for a 4.7. There's really no need to make it adjustable unlees you have a lag in throttle response - not much sense in changing something unlees it's to improve it...

Message: When I run the TPS mod, am I going to lose mpg? I mean, if I drive the same way I have been. I don't want to lose mpg, what with the price of gas going higher and higher. I don't care if I increase mpg, I just rather not lose any more than like 1 mpg. Thanks.

Message: I didn't notice a decrease in fuel mileage when I did the TPS mod, but it got rid of the off idle lag. Mine was set to .55V and I adjusted it to .70V ;)

Message: Cool, b/c I know the mod is supposed to make the engine run richer, correct? I thought that richer = more fuel = decrease in mileage. But I'm a rookie at this.

Message: it wont make it run richer, you might be thinking of having your IAT relocated. the TPS is the sensor that tells your computer how far the throttle is open. with the voltage set right, it will respond much better to you stepping on the gas pedal

Message: Oh, see? I told you I was a rookie at this. Thanks man. Now the IAT move won't cause me to lose mpg, will it?

Message: Now what should my meter be on when I'm testing? The only way I got a reading is when I set the meter to DC-A, 250mV. Is that correct? I got a reading of .25, sound about right? I tried testing on DC-V, and nothing happened.

Message: Ok, never mind my post about the voltage. It woulda helped if I had read the directions and did it with the key on. Got a reading of .6, do ya'll think I should mess with it? Or just leave it?

Message: I don't think you've provided enough info for a good answer to that question. Do you have a lag in throttle response ?

Message: Well, I hit the gas when I was comin to work. Didn't seem to have any lag in the response time at all. Guess I should just leave it then.

Message: they say .7 is optimal, but if its close to that to leave it alone. the only reason you'd want to mess with it is if youre having some stumble going from idle to accellerating. sounds like you should be fine with .6
