I don't take my eyes off the track anyway. Listen to your engine and you'll know when to shift. "Use the force young Skywalker". ;)
Just askin'...nothing else.

Message: I can understand why he would want a monster tach. Some people pay very close attention to their tach when racing. That way they can shift at certain rpms that will give them the best time. It also helps with consistent times. They even help in autos (for the people that know that they can shift manualy). Also, stock tachs are very slow and tend to be unaccurate. I have seen them up to 300 rpm off. I, personally, am not using one on my dak because it is my daily driver, has a stock tach that works fine for me, and I don't race often enough to have a big clock looking thing on my dash.

Message: Hey,
Bernd im going to have to agree with Keith
I do watch my rpm's alot. In my 00 4.7 auto
before I totaled in (hit a patch of black ice
going about 60mph..theres nothing left!)but the
01 4.7 5spd 3.92 will be here in a few weeks..
But anyway every truck ha different shift points
Like Keith said more consistent.
Plus I think they look good I installed one in
my buddies 96 Z-71..but chevy puts a plug-in
on theres...Well does AutoMeter have directions
to put one on a 01 4.7
thanks

Message: I hooked one up in my last truck ('97 S10 4 Cyl) that also had DIS. Since there is no distributor feed, you need to find the location and color of the wire that feeds the stock dash tach. I went to the Chevy dealer and asked one of the techs for the electrical diagram. I found the wire behind the dash, tapped into it, and was good to go.
