Message: Just curious, why do you want the 5 speed rather than the 6?

Message: Simply for the fact that if i bought one of the two today, I am pretty much guaranteed to have problems with the 6 speed based on the detailed post that one of the guys on here gave...mofinwiley i think was the gentleman that did the t56 6 speed and he had to redo the whole thing or pretty close to it...i am not a mechanic so i would have to have the tranny for dummies so to speak....

Message: Personally, I like the gear ratios and spacing between gears better on the 5-speed. Either kit is not going to be a bolt-on. Keisler will work with you to get it straight. By all accounts, it's an awesome setup when complete.

Message: puttputt,
I am not sure how easily the TKO kits installs, but without any major hold-ups, the work is about the same.
One thing you do need to think about is price. the 5 speed kits are a considerable amount cheaper. but you should still budget yourself about $500 extra for any suprises during install.
I DO NOT recommend the kit to people unless they truly understand what they are getting into. I did not, but was lucky enough to have to enough determination and time to put into it. Not to mention support from family and friends, and a VERY VERY understanding g/f.
It is not an easy install, in fact at times it can seem very daunting. It is a serious mod than can be easily screwed up during install leaving you without a truck and an expensive trip to a trans shop to fix mistakes.
In the end though, like Bill mentioned, it can transform your truck into something special. I am still amazed every time I drive my truck. Even more so when I get on it. The shifts are absolutely flawless every time.
oh and the gas mileage with the 6th gear on my 4.7 is some to relish. I might just be getting the best gas mileage of any dak ANYWHERE.

Message: MoFin,
Thanks for the feedback....Of course, also thank you Bill for the input....Yes I may just the leave the R/T stock for now...It's amazing how much fun it is to drive that truck just the way it is...
However, if I dont do some performance engine work soon, I will end up doing a suspension kit to make it handle better....
MoFin, I am curious how much faster your truck is now than before you did the 6speed...?...
I am going to have to be patient and read through some more posts before I ask too many questions...I am new on here and it's all pretty informative...
By the way I live in the North Houston area and I am curious about other fellow R/T's and Sports in the area....Would like to goto the track someday just to see what I am capable of running...I might have more fun with other enthusiasts...
Take care
