Last week I removed the Volant tube and cone filter, that I've used for the last year, and put the stock intake back on (02 QC AWD 4.7 auto).

I finally got tired of the noise. Exhaust noise = good, intake noise = _noise_.

I haven't noticed any performance trade-offs yet. It almost seems better with the stock setup. I'll run it this way for a while, then I may replace the air hat with a tube to the stock filter box.

While the cotton gauze filters should flow better, I'm not convinced that the filtering ability is sufficient, and pulling in the engine compartment air can't be helping anything. Although the Volant tube has a _little_ plastic deflector shield that fits around half of the filter cone.

I never did get any milage +/- from the Volant, so it's benefits were questionable for me.

Lurkin,

When you want to shange out that air hat on your motor, let me know.

Remember, If you have sewer pipe clamped on your throttle body......................you might be a red neck!

Bob, thanks for the offer, but I will probably run it stock for a month or two to ensure I don't want to put it back on. Since I got it off eBay for a good price, I just may cut the lower curved part off and use it as the TB to filter box plumbing. ...don't want to look to redneck...

Funny thing is, a couple months ago I clipped the TMR (torque mgmt request) line on the PCM. At the time I didn't notice a difference in the 1-2 shift, and commented here on that. Since I went back to the stock air intake, the 1-2 shift is now noticably harder. Also note that I do plenty of hard starts both with the Volant, and now without it.

Who knows, it may all be psychological, since everything else I do is...

No problem, figured I'd ask. Put the Volant back on in a month and you'll FEEL faster lol. Half of the mods we do are psychological it seems unless something like a supercharger is installed lol. Cutting the wire to pcm for tmr is something new to me. wonder how many others have done this and which wire is it?

Todd, do you need a 4.7 factory airhat? If so, I have two:)

There were several posts on the TMR wire. Look back if you want. I believe tht it was pin 10 on the PCM. When the tranny wants to shift, it sends a signal to the PCM to retard the timing in order to soften the shift. On my AWD it didn't seem to make as big a difference as on the 2wd/4wd trucks.

I've been tempted to start a post on best psychological upgrade that's been done. But I don't need to become flame-bait... :-)
