Message: I always used 100% white Lithium grease. It dissolves once the engine oil starts circulating. You can buy the white assembly lube and pay 4 times more, but it's the same thing.

Message: the reason i asked is that i know of a few experienced engine builders that will NOT use the white assy grease because it can get hard over time and provides no real compression resistance when that first cyl fires.....
thats what i hear anawayz
so far im using STP engine treatment, which a seasoned detroit diesel engine builder told me he had good luck with...........

Message: Stick with a petroleum based product (lithium is not petroleum based) so that it will disolve completely in hot motor oil. I used to use plain old bearing grease like you put on trailer wheel bearings with no problems. I'll admit my only builder experience was rebuilding a 351 winsor every winter when I had a true race car (not street legal).

Message: 318 Magnum? Did you ditch the roller lifters for flats, or is there something else you're using assembly lube on?
