Message: To everyone-
Iam new to the board i have a 5.2 4x4 1999 and love it. I need exhaust my stock sh*(# is blown out. What do I do get a muffler and have a shop make the pipe. If so what brands, sizes, outlets do I need. Also single or dual and are there any good cat-back systems out there. Also will a cat-back be the same as a custome bent pipe. Finally has anyone tried a K&N exhaust system.
Thanks
I need some replys asap I have to order soon.
Thanks

Message: I believe the K&N exhaust is just Gibson exhaust. On my 2000 Dak, I'm running magnaflow single/dual 2.5" to 3.5" tips, looks awesome and sound great. Fairly loud at in town cruise speeds, and quiet at highway speeds. It comes down to preference of sound, every muffler has a slightly diff. sound to it, find out if others in your area have the Dak w/ exhaust to hear the sound.
BTW I have the stainless steel muffler, plus Magnaflow offers lifetime warranty free with purchase of any of their muffler products

Message: K&N quit making exhaust because they had too much competition and they wanted to focus on their filters. Custom bent pipe and a cat-back bends are completely different. Cat-backs are mandrel bent which means that the pipe doesnt get crushed in the bend like a custom bend at a muffler shop. Allthough, some high end shops can do custom mandrel bends. Mandrel bends are prefered. I personally would go with a cat-back because they are tested and tuned to get the most power and mileage. As far as which brand to use, it all depends on what sound you are looking for. They are all very comparable in power gains but the sounds can be quite a bit different. Another thing to look at is the material. Stainless steel is the most durable and expensive. Second in line is aluminized pipe. Last is just steel pipe. At least use aluminized pipe because it is very rust resistant. Duals or single exhaust is just another preference. The single 3" has been proven to give the best power gains on the 4.7 so dont let anyone tell you that duals will give you more power.
