Subject: Mileage on latest trip IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 QC 4x4 with 4.7L and 60,000 miles. Last trip across the state of Pennsylvania through the Mountains 420 miles. 65mph on highway, 75mph on interstate. Temperatures between 19-42. 17 mpg. Not to bad for only a drop in filter. What should my next mod be to help that number get a little bigger along with better HP?

Message: Free flowing exhaust should help some, but usualy you step into it more (right foots' conected to the ears syndrome) and you end up loosing a bit of mpg...

Message: Remove the intake tube from the airbox and enlarge the hole diameter to 4". In winter just let it suck in engine compartment air. In summer you can add a 4" tube to the front grill to get cooler air in.
Doing this gained me almost 2mpg with the stock paper filter.
