 Subject: Mileage on latest trip

I have a 2001 QC 4x4 with 4.7L and 60,000 miles. Last trip across the state of Pennsylvania through the Mountains 420 miles. 65mph on highway, 75mph on interstate. Temperatures between 19-42. 17 mpg. Not to bad for only a drop in filter. What should my next mod be to help that number get a little bigger along with better HP?

Free flowing exhaust should help some, but usualy you step into it more (right foots' conected to the ears syndrome) and you end up loosing a bit of mpg...

Remove the intake tube from the airbox and enlarge the hole diameter to 4". In winter just let it suck in engine compartment air. In summer you can add a 4" tube to the front grill to get cooler air in.
Doing this gained me almost 2mpg with the stock paper filter.
