Message: Whats the deal with TB size and engine size I hear a lot of 5.9 owners are using TB sizes around 52mm so why are the 4.7 quys using 68-70mm TB's?
This doesn't make sense to me then again I'm pretty new to working with v8's.

Message: The 4.7 uses a single barrel TB. Different design from the 5.9.

Message: It all depends on your mods.
52mm is good for any stock to medium modified R/T.
Once you play with the big boys you will need to go up to a 55mm or 58mm if your extremely modded.

Message: Yeh but if you go to 55mm or the biggest at 58mm you can expect to pay around 5 to 6 hundred just for the tb... And then the bores are rectangular due to design and shape of tb to play with, so your actually losing some minor amounts of flow, not much to notice, but some to pay that much and most of the time like you pointed out with the extremely modded remark, most of thes big tb's are fully blown with either twin turbos or some high output sc's... The 52mm actually equals 104mm's when compared to the 4.7 single bore tb... Even then you have to add in your torque step which on most dodge tb's is equivalent to 2mm's per bore, so with that included your actually running 100mm's with the dual 52mm bore tb... Even the after markets have the torque step, but if you desired you can do like I did and just take that out with some minor machining... I think the stock tb's on the r/t's are what at or around dual 50mm bores so your actually running dual 48mm bores with torque step included... So that's equivalent to 96mm's... When put this way, you can really see the differences... 4mm's doesn't sound like that much I know, but with air flow, it all adds up!!!

Message: If you think of the diameter of the 68mm one, the area of the circle would be 3631 m^2
The area of the dual 52mm would be 4246 m^2
That's a difference of 615 m^2

Message: Two 52mm bores would be approximately equivalent to a single 74mm bore in area (3.14 x radius squared)
