Subject: Swap 2.5L for 318?

Hi Everyone!!

Great board, lots of info. I have a particular question though that I couldn't find in the search.

I would like more power from my '00 Reg Cab 5-spd. Would it be better to swap out for a 318 or install the kit that Bernd has mentioned? The truck is a daily driver. I want the added performance for two reasons. First, just plain better acceleration. Not for racing, just for driving around. Second and less important is towing. It would be nice, but not required, to have somewhere around 5000 lb. capacity.

Ideas...opinions?? Thanks in advance for all of your help and advice!!

I would put the 318 in there. But you have to remember that almost nothing in that truck will be compatable with that engine. It will be one big shopping trip to the parts counter. Since the truck is a 2000 maybe you should trade it in and get one with a 4.7 because changing the engine will probably take the value right out of it.

THat is correct. You will end up spending thousands to change to a 318. Better to trade it in on another vehicle. You will be much happier in the long run.
