Message: I own, or should I say my husband owns a 2002 Dodge Dakota Quad. He is in Iraq and will be coming home in a few weeks. I noticed the outside of the front tires were wearing unevenly and that when I got it to between 66-72 mph the front end would vibrate. I took it to the dealer and had the tires rotatated and a front end alignment. It is still doing it. Also the brakes grab a little. It has 26,000 on the O. Any help would be appreciated as I want to have is truck running good when he comes home

Message: Hunter, try having your wheels balanced..an off balanced wheel will cause a vibration...as for the brakes grabbing, these Dakotas have a bad habbit of warping the brake rotors..have them checked also...

Message: The dealership should have found the bad ball joints when they were doing the alignment since this is a common problem with Dakotas and Durango's. Ball joints are covered under your warranty since your at 26K miles. If your brakes are bad your going to pay since Dodge only warranties the brakes for 12K miles.
Make sure they fix the ball joints before the Dak gets out of warranty, you don't want a $700 ball joint repair bill at 40K.

Message: $700 for ball joints??? no way have the joint not the whole control arm replaced for less the $350 for all four plus a front end alignment. Belle Tire did this for me and I just looked up the invoice.

Message: When they rotated the tires, they also balanced them. So I will have them look at the ball joints next. Thanks.

Message: Hunter,
Take the Dak to a frontend/tireshop that will give you a free inspection. Most Goodwrench, Goodyear, and Firstone shops will do this for you in hopes of getting your business. Then when they hand you the list of problems take it to the dealer. Don't show it to the dealer until after the dealer has performed their inspection. Compare the dealer's notes to the other's. More than likely, you need ball joints. I'm willing to bet that the dealer tries to get out of doing the repairs while it's still under warranty. If they do, you need to contact the BBB and your congressman in your district. Also, contact DC to make sure they know what is going on. You will also need to have a certified letter mailed to DC with the conflicting diagnosis so that you have proof that there was a problem before the warranty expired. It's a lot of BS to have to go through. DC isn't the only one that does this. I went through much worse service related issues with Ford Motor Co. They all do it.
