I am looking for any body that has info or pictures of fuel cells mounted in gen 1 or 2 Dakotas. I am wanting to mount one where the spare tire is supposed to go and have it protrude as little as possible into the bed. This truck will be a street truck with the ocassional blast down the track.
PS this truck will be getting a 451 big block by the end of summer:)

I mounted mine inside the bed, as close to the rear as possible. My truck is a 91. I thought about mounting it recessed like you said but decide to mount it on the bed floor, plus it looks good with my nitrous bottle on one side and my battery on the other.

I'm doing that very install on my '92 right now. I don't have any pics (yet...), but from what I can see, my fuel cell is going to require me to move the spare tire carrier crossmember forward a few inches to give the cell clearence to fit between the rear crossmember and the aforementioned carrier crossmember.
Do yourself a favor (if you try this yourself), and make a template out of .012 to .014 thick paper to use in "mocking" up of the fuel cell. Having a mock-up cell is much better than trying to wrestle with the actual piece, and you don't have to worry about scratching up the cell.
I'll have some pics in the near future, so I'll post them at some time.
