Ok this mabey a stupid question, but I spent most of my 21 years with snowmobiles, not trucks, so bear with me alittle bit. Alright I installed a robert shaw gen 2 thermostat rated at 180 deg. It stays at 180 degrees when the temps are in the 70's no problem. Now when it is in the mid 80's it stays there when driving on the expressway or long stretches of road, but when I pull into a gas station or slow down in town the needle goes to 200 deg, but still feels like it is running great, much better than with the stock thermostat. I can not really remember but I know the stock one never went as far as 200 deg but then again it ran like crap in the heat.

Thanks,

I just installed a 180 Stant, I couldn't find a Robert Shaw. I have no problems on my 2001 R/T! It never get goes over 185! Somthing is wrong, you could have air in your system. Have you changed you fluids yet? Wrong mixture of antifree can effect you cooling system. Don't just run water either! Also they suggest replacing your antifree every year or two years I think.

I would try the easy solutions first, worry about pumps and fans later.

Just a quick question, how do you know it is going to 200 degrees's? Are the R/T gages graduated with temp numbers? Just a question.
