Subject: 94 3.9 lifter retainers IP: Logged Message: Hell o all, I've a 3.9 apart again, head work, and looked at the hardware designed to stop the lifters from blasting out of thier bosses. The retainer plates,1 per cyl.2 holes, are numbered 1,2,3, no left or right,no cyl.# just 1,2,3. the numerals point forwards. two are worn slightly shiny on the low side, closest to crank. These plates are able to move frount to back a bit 1/8" mayby. Retainer plates are themselves retained by the shiny spider thingy with the two 5/19"x1" bolts. a question. is there a better way? this motor has always[ for 100k anyway]ticked slightly under load like a header leek buy weren't. sort of like a timing chain, did that. perhaps like a cracked head. fixed them too. changed lifters, rockers, rods[pushing ones], all to no avail. It beginns to seem that one or two of these .........lifter plates may get exited, and jump around a bit, ticking in the process? Thanks for your intrest. M. Ryder |

The front end sags like a bitch and it's quite annoying. I've craked it up a few turns but it has not seemed to have an effect on it. I've got about 50,000 miles on it but other vehicles have lasted WAY longer. Has anyone had this problem? If so, what have you done about it? |
