Message: I posted this on the general board. But I thought maybe one of you here can help me. I have a 93 Dakota (Gen 2). It will not start. It won't even crank over. when I turn the key it just makes a click. I replaced the battery but that did not fix it so I thought it must either be the starter or the solinoid. I cant find the solinoid anywhere. Can one of you tell me where I can find the ignition soliniod on a Gen2 Dak? I followed the cables from the battery and the starter, but instead of going into the solinoid, they just disapear into the wire harness. Please help.

Gentlemen, I don't think the lady is asking where to buy replacement parts. She is asking where to look for the starter solenoid on her truck.
Sorry I can't help you Brandi. I'm not familiar with the 93s. But I suspect the click you are hearing indicates the solenoid isn't the problem. You replaced the battery but it might be a good idea to check the voltage anyway. Once you know you've got at least 12 volts at the battery, check the voltage at the starter. If you've got 12 volts there then the starter motor must be the problem. I know that's not much help; good luck,
-J.

Message: Brandon.. that's why I asked what kind of engine it is :-). If it's clicking it's either the Battery or the Starter *Solinoid is in the starter* there is a way to by pass the starter.. but if you've never done it before I wouldn't try it. Once I know what kind of engine it is.. I'll figure out where that starter is.

Message: Chrysler starters have had the solinoid built into the starter for as long as I have been driving Mopars (1968). Usually its not a problem as Mopar starters outlast Ford and GM units. If it is a bad solinoid you will have to replace the starter. This is on ALL Mopar engines.

Message: Thanks Guys. It was the starter. I pulled it out and replaced it with a new one. It was very difficult to remove and replace because there it very little room due to the front axle. no room to turn a wrench. I got the new one for $68.00 with a core replacement.
