Subject: Torsion Bars IP: Logged
Message: Is there such a thing as heavy duty torsion bars for 2000' Dakotas? I'm putting on a Kennesaw Mt. bumper and winch.

Message: Only stronger tosion bars available are the V-8 TB's, so if you have the V-6 3.9 you can upgrade them. Unless something new came out since I have been out of the Dakota.
I did this on my Dakota

Message: Thanks Forefox. I have the V-8.
So, did your truck ride any different after your bumper and winch? Did you adjust the T-Bars to compensate for the extra weight?

Message: Something worth looking into:
The 2005 Durangos still have torsion bar front suspension. Don't know if it's the same or higher spring rate, or even if the length is right, but thought I'd pass it along. If it has higher spring rate (to hold up that hemi engine) and is the same length - there's your T-bar ugrade.

Message: Yeah I cranked them up, then I put on the v-8 bars. The weight up front was always causing some sag, after the rancho lift I managed to keep a level look.
Bumper and winch easily added 250 lbs up front

Message: Hi!
Try "sway-a-way". They seem to make pretty strong torsion bars.

Message: Sway-a-way does not make hex end bars, only the spline type. Their only Dodge Applications are for the D50 & Raider which are really rebadged Mitsubishi.

Message: SO has there been any discussion on this forum about replacing the torsion bars with coilovers? Seems like a a small place for a big shock, but what are the possibilities of doing a Torsion Bar to coilover swap?

Message: I think one problem may be that the frame at the shock mounting area is not rigid or strong enough to carry the weight of the vehicle without reinforcement.
