Subject: What is required to install? IP: Logged
Message: I am going to change my gears out on my 97 3.9 w/8.25 open differential. I am probably going to jump from the 3.21 to the 3.92 gears, and was thinking of installing either the Auburn limited-slip differential or the Dana power-trac [is this the right version?] at the same time. However, I have NEVER done anything more than replace the gasket back there. I am fairly mechanically inclined [have replaced engines before] but want to know what I am getting into when I go this route. Or does it require specialized tools that mean it would be best to just take to a shop? Thanks for any/all advice you can give me. My goal is to get more off-road power for when I go camping. Probably 90% of the time it will be on-road, but I will usually drive my car or motorcycle [whenever I finish restoring it] to save $ on gas, so on-road performance isn't THAT big of an issue. I expect trucks to be noisy and I expect to have to learn every vehicle's driving quirks: so I am even considering the PowerTrac's No-Slip system. Thanks again
