Subject: Squeaky Front-end IP: Logged
Message: I am getting an annoying sqeaking noise coming from the front as I hit small bumps, it has a rubbery sound to the sqeak. I have tried spraying lubricant on suspect areas including sway bar, but no success.I took it to a shop and they said it does not sound like front end problems they also just sprayed the rubber bushings saying it should go away.I realize I am not giving much info here, just thought someone may have same problem?

Message: My 2000 CC squeaks when cold. It seems to go away when the truck warms up. I had Dodge replace the sway arm bushings, but the squeak is still there. I have tried spraying and it might stop for a day or two but eventually comes back. Just put on a louder muffler and crank up the tunes.

Message: Uh oh Swampdak, could be ball joints. I'd check those. Mine started out as just a squeak, which got progressively harder to ignore. Lots of good posts on ball joints here if you use the search feature.

Message: I had my truck in the dealer yesterday for a similar sound. Seems there is a TSB for this noise for 1999-2000 4x4's. They have an updated tranny crossmember and torsion bar brackets. Dealer installed they wanted like $800. That may be part of what you hear as well.

Message: I know my problem is not ball joints ( I have crawled under the
truck to verify while someone else bounced it up and down).
With 16K miles on my '01 4x4 QC, after some hard off road driving
my front sway bar and rear leaf spring bushings are squeeking (when
I go over bumps) . . . any suggestions on what would be best to lube
them with (it has to be able to spray into the gaps ? ) ???
(I've tried a spray silicon lube . . . worked for a little while)

Message: Thanks for the feedback, I think this is going to be one of those deals where it is not broken enough to fix yet. Sqeak is still there and I will just make it an ongoing investigation.I have 85,000 kms on truck so it could be the ball joints Lesley. Again thanks for response.

Message: This happened to me at 17,000 miles. It sounded like I was torturing a mouse every time I hit a bump.
I had to creep underneath while a friend bounced the truck to find all the rubber bushings that were dried out. . It took a few tries to get it silent, but every pass made a little difference. There were bushings squeaking everywhere !!!
I used white lithium grease and the hard plastic extension that comes with the spray can to get at all the contact points.
It has been 6K miles (2 months) and so far, no other squeaks…
BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET ANY LUBRICANT ON THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS !!!

Message: You really shouldnt be using a petroleum based lubricant on rubber bushings. It causes them to expand and fail prematurely

Message: (Lattimer) I have searched the TSBs on the NHTSA website. Unfortunatly the descriptions are terse.
(ie... "Suspension" or "Brakes")
Can you post the TSB# from your invoice here?
Thanks

Message: Sorry, I threw it away after I got upset at the dealer. I was a little stoked that Dodge admits to a design problem and then expects me to pay to ciorrect it. My trucks out of warranty, and the extended warranty refuses to cover the work. So I didn't have the work done yet. I have a friend getting me a copy of the TSB off of AllData. I'll start a new thread on it when I get it.
By the way, I noticed tonight that the noise goes away when its raining. I'm not sure if thats important or not.
