Subject: vent going crazy???!!! IP: Logged
Message: I was pulling a trailor the other weekend about 370 miles roundtrip. This trailor was pretty heavy (or at least for my 3.9L V6. Whenever I go up hills and have the gas pressed down hard for a while the vent (no a/c) would cutoff and go to the defrost, but when I let off the gas, it comes back to the vents....???? Any particular reason why this would be happining?
I was thinking maybe it's trying to cool the engine, but the engine was running @ normal temp. Around 190deg or so (I think).
It would do this every once and a while, not necessarily all the time.
Any help would be great.

Message: Just a guess but those controls for the vent work off engine vacuum pressure. Could have been such a dramtic change in engine vacuum they just went nuts for a bit

Message: Exactly right. The controls are vacuum operated, and those long stretches with the pedal down don't provide enough manifold vacuum to replenish the reservoir.
