Subject: How to tell if I have rack and pinion? IP: Logged
Message: Looking into 3" Rancho lift, i think it is rare but some daks have rack and pinion so the lift won't work, what is the difference/ how can i tell?

Message: The newer ones I know have rack & pinion. 2001 has it and I assume newer has it also. Look underneath and you can see the tie rods coming directly out of the rack. On the older type the tie rods go to the drag link.

Message: I think '00 was first year for R&P in the 4x4, but not sure...

Message: Follow the steering on down to where it ends. If what's down there is squarish and about as big as a shoe box, it's not R&P.
If what it connects to is horizontal, roundish, and about 2.5-3 feet long with rubber accordian boots on both ends, it's R&P.
