Subject: 50 mph & floating & noise IP: Logged
Message: I had my bearings in the 3.55 rear end replaced about 10,000 miles ago (it is a 2002 Dodge Durango). Ever since then the truck has been very quiet - with the exception of tire & road noise. Recently (I think it was not there before) I have been noticing some faint, hard to hear noise while floating (barely enough throttle pressure to maintain speed)right around 50 mph. It seems to come either from the front end or the tranny and not from the rear end. It is not even a real whine...it sounds more like super faint engine braking. I have the 5-45RFE transmission, in case that matters. It only happens while floating around 50 mph. During any other driving condition it cannot be heard. Does anybody have any idea what it would be? Thanks!
Best,
Nico

Message: My father always told me, unless it's causing a problem that is noticable, turn up the radio. I didn't like the response, but unless you can trace it down taht is your only option. Your other option is to mount a mike near where you think the problem is to trace down teh problem further.
